Grand Rapids Days For Girls

Days for Girls is a collective project run by the Grand Rapids Rotary and Interact Club. The objective of this project is to provide girls in developing countries with clean and reusable feminine products. Girls in these places face adversity when trying to attend school due to cultural taboos on menstruation.  Throughout the year girls will miss up to 30% of school and place them far behind their male counterparts. By providing girls with these kits, we provide them with the tools necessary to attend school year round and further their education.  These kits consist of two snap pads with a water proof barrier, flannel liners, soap, and two pairs of underwear. When well cared for, these kits will last up to five years, allowing the girls to attend school year round. In the past year, we traveled to India and Nepal and distributed fifty kits to girls there. Our mission this year is to create an addition 150 kits and send them back to India, where they will continue to allow girls to attend school.  The money raised by this will be put towards purchasing fabric, soap and underwear which will be used in the creation of the kits.
