GraceCorps to help schools in Haiti

Donation protected
My name is Robers. I was born in Haiti.  I started my professional life as a journalist.  At 22 years of age, I was very fortunate to leave Haiti and studied in Canada.  Somewhat I never felt at peace knowing the depth of poverty that I left behind.  That is how in 1996 I started Grace Corps with a group of friends in Haiti. Today we are linked to 32 schools and have trained more than 200 teachers in some of the remotest places of Haiti.
Hurricane Matthew has destroyed nearly 50% of those schools.  Many of the teachers living in Pestel, Baraderes, Mamolette, have found themselves on the path of this cruel storm.  We would like to help some of them rebuild as soon as possible.  These are the folks that hosted me many times in their flimsy houses (where rats are a familiar sight).  People who are used to live life with little hope but abundant joy.
We will be buying tin sheets for the roofs of their houses roughly $200  per household.  The money will also serve to fix the cracks of those houses. Part of it will secure their meals for at least a week.  We firmly believe in sustainable development.  So, we will also buy seeds to help them restore their fields.
The hit that they suffered from the hurricane is but the tip of the iceberg.  A severe famine will settle in Haiti  in the coming days that could be catastrophic.  We will do due diligence to ensure the food safety of those we have been working with since 1996.
I would love to visit those people, many of them are like family to me.  But I know I will need more to show them than a big smile no matter how sincere and comforting it can be.  You will be helping us telling them that people do care.
Why Grace Corps and not the Red Cross?  The answer is simple.  It takes a different kind of commitment to travel ten hours by truck, two hours by boat, and two hours climbing 4000ft above sea level (all in one day to reach some of them).  Much of the help the UN or CARE or the Red Cross will bring will vanish before reaching them.  One of the teachers we know since 2000 who is the representative of the Red Cross in his village told me that he knew about the hurricane's threat only three hours before it hit his village.  Trust me, they will not hear about any help until it passes them by.
Please help us bring some hope to our friends we will be forever grateful and they will be as well.
Thank you.
