Grace's Fight with Cancer

Donation protected
Every community needs a Grace. Whether it be your school, neighborhood, or group of friends, you need someone who can bring positivity and encouragement to everyone else in the room with just a word or smile. That person is Grace. She is married to Isaac, has two boys (Christian & Noah), works hard at her dream job—and yet, she always finds time to love and support those around her as well. Her name fits perfectly.

But right now, she needs us. Grace Kim (Grace Chu, maiden name) is going through the biggest fight of her life! Towards the end of last year, Grace began feeling a tightness in her chest. Upon seeing a doctor, she discovered the shocking news that she had a tumor compressing her trachea, esophagus, aorta, and spine. December 2018, Grace had emergency surgery to undergo a bilateral thoracotomy, a dangerous and serious operation. She made it through the surgery successfully and began her recovery at the start of 2019.

Unfortunately, the results of her tumor’s biopsy revealed that one section was malignant. The cancer turned out to be a very rare sarcoma called Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor. Her fight was not over. Grace began proton radiation, 35 treatments. This radiation became the most painful experience of her life. Her throat burned, her breathing was limited, and she couldn’t eat well. Despite this, Grace remained thankful. She called it her “honeymoon with God,” when she could spend quality time with Jesus. She finished her proton radiation this past spring 2019 and was recovering.

Then this Fall 2019, Grace developed a cough and began feeling a new discomfort in her chest and back. She had an MRI of her chest, which revealed multiple aggressive new tumors that had grown in the past few months. This was not the news any of us were hoping for.

Grace and her family are in need. Grace and Isaac have begun exploring treatment options that may require them to travel in the next month to Minnesota, Missouri, and perhaps outside of the United States. Grace has had to quit her job as a dentist, and Isaac’s work schedule has been affected as well. While we don’t know the extent of the financial burden this will bring, we do know the need is great. And they could hugely benefit from having the financial support so they can use it as needed. Any support given will be extremely appreciated.

Grace has been a shining light in our community. She continues to laugh, smile, and proclaim her purpose of sharing God’s love to everyone she meets. Nothing has changed her incredible spirit. Please support Grace and her family on this journey, whether it be through prayers, meals, cards, or this donation page. It truly means so much.

Thank you.
