On August 25, 2015, Imad Alasmar, a hard working man and devoted husband and father of ten children, was fatally shot in his taxi cab during what was supposed to be a routine pick up.  The motive for the shooting is currently under investigation, but it is believed that his death may have been the result of a robbery.

Imad, originally from Jordan,  came to the United States in 1990 to make a better life for himself and his family.   In Jordan, he worked as a high school English teacher, but after arriving in the U.S. he began working as a taxi driver, then for 7-Eleven and QuickChek convenience stores, and within the past several years he returned to work as a taxi driver because he enjoyed driving around and meeting new people.  He had been working for Station Cab, Inc. for just 3.5 years when he was killed after being dispatched to a pick up on Bedford Street in Rahway, NJ.

The Alasmar family is made up of Imad's wife, Ibtesam, and their ten children ranging in age from 8 to 22 years old.  They live in Edison, NJ and are understandably in shock and grieving over the unexpected and horrific loss of their father.

We are a group of teachers and guidance counselors who have taught and worked with many of the Alasmar children in Edison and we are hoping to raise funds to help the family during this tragic time.  We are aware that other GoFundMe pages have been set up, but because we're not familiar with the creators of the pages (though they may be legitimate), we decided to create our own page to ensure the money we collect and donate gets to the family.

Thank you once again for all of the incredible support, well wishes, and generosity that so many of you have extended toward the Alasmar Family! Now that school is in session and the Edison School District has set up their own GoFundMe page, we are closing this one out so that we may get the donated money to the family right away. The money will be hand delivered by us along with a printed list of the donations so that the family can see for themselves how generous everyone has been.

If anyone would like to continue donating money, please feel free to go to the school district's GoFundMe page at: http://www.gofundme.com/alasmarfamily

Once again, thank you all so much for the incredible generosity you've extended to the Alasmar family! In less than a day we've raised over $1,000 and the donations are coming in from current and former district staff, parents from town, and others, which means word is getting out!

It would be great if we could reach at least $2,000 in the next couple of days because we received word that the school district is in the process of setting up their own GoFundMe page. Once theirs goes live, we'll close this one out and get the money to the family right away so that they have something to use for immediate bills and other needs. Please keep sharing the link to this page! The more word spreads, the more money we'll be able to raise!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! We truly appreciate all of your generosity! Please keep sharing this page with everyone you know. I've already reached out to several news outlets and cab companies in the area with a link to this page and the cab company that Mr. Alasmar was driving for has posted a link on their homepage (huge thank you to them)!
