Girls on the Run Chicago

At Girls on the Run, we envision a world where every girl knows and actives her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
GOTR is a non-profit afterschool program for 3rd- 8th grade girls. We use a 10-week curriculum that
teaches girls life lessons, such as bullies, healthy habits, positive self-talk, how to handle emotions and much much more. Each lesson incorporates running and as a capstone achievement the girls run a 5k at the end of the season.
The 5k offers the girls a tangible experience of healthy goal-setting and success and lays the foundation for future achievement. The overall goal is to empower girls with the confidence, character, and skills they need to become strong, healthy women.
I got involved with GOTR about 5 years ago and currently am a coach with one of our local Chicago schools to girls who are in 3rd-5th grade. This program helps the girls not only physically but mentally and emotionally at such a vulnerable age. I wish there was a program like this when I was their age. I learn just as much being a coach :)
The Chicago council of GOTR has made a commitment to ensure that at least 50% of our programs
are located in Chicagoland's most under-resourced, low-income communities. To date, we have never
turned a girl away due to her inability to pay and will award more than $850,000 in financial assistance
and subsidies this year. Girls on the Run-Chicago receives no city, state, or federal funding. We rely on
support from our generous donors, grants, and sponsorships.
