Melanie Antoinette Wheeler  Cardiff, WLS
Memorial Headstone in loving memory for the multi-talented Gordon John Edwards.  A Capricorn, born on Thursday the 26th December 1946.  He died on Friday the 28th February 2003.

Gordon was a good man, with a kind nature.

Gordon will be remembered mainly as a professional Singer/Songwriter, played Keys, Piano, Guitar, Bass in bands: Sunshine, The Electric Banana, The Pretty Things, Metropolis, The Kinks, The Firm, and as a sessional musician.  Record Labels: Swan Song, Warner Bros., Snapper, Harvest, CBS, Closer Records, Mad Fish, The Glaziers, Crystal Palace F.C. Music De Wolfe, Atlantic and K-Box Records.

Gordon struggled off and on with our family disease of depression and anxiety.   He depended on drugs, mainly heroin to cope with his reality.  Gordon was not a  bad man, he was a sick man with a severe substance use disorder.  At the time of his passing on Friday the 28th February 2003, Gordon was living alone in a filthy bedsit in Greenford.  Poisoned, starved, chronically infected by the hepatitis B virus (HBV).   His cause of death is recorded as self-inflicted knife wounds on his arms and finally, along his throat.

It is likely Gordon slipped into a coma very quickly in under 10 seconds and died in under a minute.  He bled to death sat on the floor of his bedsit, wearing only a shirt.  His landlord found him a week later.

Though little consolation, I had heard that letting one's blood flow was as near a painless death as could be achieved.

Gordon is my Uncle.  When I first dreamed of him, he was OK, he was smiling his gorgeous smile that said a trillion words.  I made a promise that I will take care of his needs as they arise since he passed to the up above.  Gordon is buried at Llanharan Cemetery, CF72 9QE, South Wales in Plot number 1145 with no memorial since 2003, 14 years ago.  I visit the cemetery when I can as my father Clem, Gordon's oldest brother and his parents Verdun and Eva Edwards are buried close by.

Good news is so far there is £80 from his JustGiving page (now closed and transferred here) and approx. £80 from his PRS royalties.  This may take many patient years, but all donations are very much appreciated and always humbling.

It is my intention to ask for your suggestions on the type of stone, words and images to present on his memorial.

Thank you.
I am Melanie.
Gordon's youngest niece.

I'm so sad after reading his story. I wish someone had been with him. I didn't know him but he played with my fave band, The Kinks. He deserves a proper monument on his grave. Best wishes, Laura Mapes
