Jump Yips for 2018!

We all fall in love with prairie dogs for different reasons. Some of us appreciate prairie dogs for their incredible communication skills or their close-knit families. Others, their adorable jump yips. For some, the connection with prairie dogs is the health that they bring to the prairie. Whatever way that prairie dogs have found their way into your heart, they are a species that deserve protection.
The Prairie Dog Coalition of the Humane Society of the United States does just that, and 2018 has been a great year. In this year alone, we have directly helped 1,900 prairie dogs and have done so much more to ensure the long-term survival of the species, but we need your help so we can continue doing this life-saving work.
Our efforts have also protected entire colonies of additional prairie dogs through defending the prairie from sylvatic plague. Just this year alone we protected 565 acres from this invasive and harmful disease.
We also know that in order to ensure the prairie dogs are here for generations to come, we need to help people understand and appreciate them, and this year we reached almost 500 people and students through our education and outreach efforts. But there are so many more people that we need to reach. Also, in 2018, we provided non-lethal management strategies and skills to 35 communities and worked with other conservation groups to establish humane solutions as viable options- an incredible win for prairie dogs!
Here are a few highlights from our accomplishments this year:
-Directly helped 1,900 prairie dogs
-Protected 565 acres from sylvatic plaque
-Reached almost 500 people and students through our education and outreach efforts
-Worked with 35 communities to establish humane solutions for prairie dogs
We are very grateful to be able to work so hard on behalf of prairie dogs and the prairie ecosystem, and our efforts wouldn’t be possible without your support. Please help us reach our $2,000 end-of-year goal and if you donate $25 or more by December 31th, we will send you a thank you postcard with a picture of a prairie dog we moved to a safe burrow in 2018.
