Margaritis Family Aid Fund

On Tuesday 9/11/18 The Margaritis family suffered a tragedy that will forever change their lives. Their special-needs son, Damon Robert Margaritis, who suffers from mental and physical disabilities had a choking accident at school while eating his breakfast.  The heroic response on the part of the school staff and paramedics was quick, but unfortunately, the food was lodged too deep making the Heimlich maneuver unsuccessful and required a tracheal instrument and suction to dislodge the food. At some point during these rescue efforts he went into cardiac arrest and paramedics immediately started CPR to restart his heart which was quickly successful, and they were able to get him stabilized and ventilated on scene.  Unfortunately, from the time his airway was blocked to when he started being successfully ventilated was estimated to be around 20 minutes.  He was rushed to Banner Desert Trauma Center where they immediately started neuro-protective measures including heavy sedation and hypothermia but after a couple of days it became evident that Damon would not make a recovery with any quality of life and being unable to breathe on his own. After consulting with the critical care staff, the family made the difficult decision to do what was best for Damon which was to take him off life support and allow him a peaceful transition. Damon was someone who despite his struggles and frustrationshad a personality that exuberated so much light and laughter to those around him.  He was a very happy joyful boy who loved people and life so deeply.  Along the way he has forever impacted people in his life, including the teachers and staff at his schools.  He brought so much positive energy to their classes, and the school in general. Damon has forever changed the lives of people at his church. So, while Damon did love everyone, he also had his favorites and it was clear who they were! He loved the simple things such as going for a drive with his older brother Skylar, windows down, music playing with a soda in his hands.  He was high on life, and he will be sorely missed.  The Margaritis family’s life revolved around caring for Damon.  He was the center of their universe and it was on honor to have him in their family. If you would like to help ease the family’s financial burdens, we are raising funds to assist with the family’s funeral costs and temporary loss of income during this difficult time. And just as a reminder any amount, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
