OUR PROJECT:
We are shooting a feature length film, this summer, entitled, "Go Black Boy Fly," and every contribution and every prayer and every bit of assistance will be so greatly appreciated.
WHAT'S OUR WHY:
My name is TaNisha Fordham. I am an educator and content creator; I have been doing both professionally for nearly a decade.
Above, is me (with the curly fro and jean jacket), but I am not nearly as impressive as Nate the Great aka Nathaniel Boone (pictured to the left), one of the best students that I have had the immense pleasure of having taught.
Just a few short years ago, when Nate was in my class, he was walking. He actually performed, several times, with my theater group where he had the chance to dance and act:

Nate was amazing but, transverse myelitis a horrible disease robbed Nate of his mobility before, eventually, TM complications robbed him of his life.
I was devastated when I found out that TM had paralyzed Nate. I couldn't believe it. I felt like I owed him something, he was this amazing, inspiring, baby who had given so much light to my classes and performances. So, I wrote a book and named the main character after baby boy:

I even adapted the book into a staged version and in January of this year my students performed for 3 packed houses:

But, when Nate died in February, it knocked the wind out of my chest. None of this seemed like enough.
Nate was such a beautiful bright soul, his life ended too early, but he reminded me of all of the students that I teach, even today, that face tremendous odds and overwhelming challenges.
HOW ARE WE SPENDING YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS:
This summer, July 2018, we are shooting the feature length film, "Go Black Boy Fly," as our war cry honoring the legacy of Nathaniel Boone and the potential of black boys and men everywhere (but not only black boys and men, all of us).
We're raising $60,000 dollars and here is how we plan to use it
$5,000 Director of Photography
$15,000 Crew (Assistant Director, Assistant Camera, 2nd AD, 2nd AC, Gaffer, Grip, Best boy, Sound mixer, Boom operator, Production designer, Script supervisor, Still photographer, Videographer, Producer)
$2,000 Permits
$5,000 Equipment rental (ATV, Jib, Camera, Lens, Drone, Audio equipment, Crane, Smoke machine)
$8,000 Location rentals (Apartment in Newark, Apartment in Greensboro, Parking lot for dance scene, 2 AIRBNB apartments)
$6,000 Actor honorariums
$5,000 Production design (Makeup, Hair, Props, Wardrobe, Location design)
$4,000 Travel and Company accommodations (We will be shooting in Newark, NJ)
$10,000 Post production (Editing, Color correction, Color grading, Film festival submission, Promotion, Marketing, Small Film Screenings)
The truth is, we are committed to making this film because the story is important and necessary. Every contribution counts. And, we are determined to make this film no matter the outcome of this fundraiser.
