'Go Baby Go' Returns to the Western Slope of Colorado!
'Go Baby Go' is a program that provides modified,
ride-on cars to young children with disabilities so that they can move independently.
Founded at the University of Delaware by Professor Cole Galloway as part of a research project, 'Go Baby Go' has been wildly successful and volunteers have been trained in more than 40 communities to modify cars so that more children can have access to them.
In 2016, several entities in the Grand Valley including Colorado Mesa University (CMU), Family Health West Foundation and Colorado Canyons Hospital & Medical Center's (CCHMC) Pediatric Rehabilitation Team joined together to launch the program on the Western Slope. Five children received specially modified cars that they're using independently. This would not have been possible without the talents of CMU's student engineers and the Pediatric Rehabilitation Team.
On Saturday, March 11, 2017, CMU faculty and student members of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) along with participants from the Department of Kinesiology and the Council of Exceptional Children Club will again join CCHMC's Pediatric Rehabilitation Team to modify cars for six children. This will be an all-day event, as the cars will be modified on-site to match the specific mobility needs of each child. Some cars will need to have a large push button mounted and wired, some will need PVC piping to help act as support for the children, and others may require more extensive modifications.
How Can You Help?
We are asking for tax-deductible monetary donations to help purchase an individual car for each child and to help offset costs for materials and supplies for the day of the event. Parents are encouraged to make a donation to help with car costs if they are able to, but no donation is required to receive a car.
We are hoping to have all funds in place no later than Monday, February 20th to ensure that all materials can be purchased for the event. You will be making a difference for these children and their families that will never be forgotten!
