Get Ashley to St Jude!!!!

Donation protected
Ashley is my beautiful daughter!!! We are in need of a new car for trips to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In December 2012 my little girl was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. This is a form of eye cancer which only affects children from birth to 6 years old. Ashley lost her left eye and now has a prosthetic eye. Ashley is 5 now and is doing great! However our car is over 20 years old and is falling apart. I am unable to purchase a new one because I just do not have the funds for our trips out to St Jude for Ashley’s checkups and any treatment if needed.

Our Story

In January of 2010 I became very ill and had multiple trips to the ER and doctors office for stomach pain. Little did I know I was pregnant with my little Ashley. I was 39 years old at the time and had no other children. I have a medical condition call Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which makes it incredibly difficult to have children and I was told I would more than likely never have children. I met Ashley’s dad two years earlier and on February of 2010 I was told I was pregnant. I was over joyed because I would get to experience this wonderful life now with a child of my own.

My pregnancy was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Two years pass in time and things are very well with my family, until we started to notice something funny with some of the pictures we took of Ashley. Her left eye would give off a glow from time to time. Then it started to show up in more pictures of her. I began to worry so I made an appointment with Ashley’s pediatrician. That day was a rough day. We went from specialist to specialist and finally ended up at the hospital for a CT scan. The scan showed Ashley had three large tumors in the left eye and the retina had become detached. All of us were devastated and I was numb. My little girl who I never thought I would ever have had cancer.

My heart sank. So many questions entered my mind. “Is my daughter going to die?” “How can we going to be able to afford this?” “Will I have to quit my job?” So many questions I just did not know the answers for. I cried so hard that first night and my body was exhausted.

Then there was St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ashley’s eye doctor referred us there. We headed to Memphis Tennessee and within a few days we were informed she would lose her left eye.

Today Ashley is healthy and happy. She has a prosthetic eye now and is cancer free. We will be traveling to St Jude until Ashley is 18 or 19 years old for checkups she will have to have a few surgeries over the years on her eye plus fittings for a new eye from time to time.

St Jude pays for the medical bills my insurance does not cover and they supply us with a place to stay and our meals while we are there. We are in need of a new reliable car for these travels to Memphis Tennessee and any other travels in our future.  Our next trip is in June and we hope the trip goes well.

Blessings to everyone who reads and shares this and thanks for any support and prayers for our girl.
