Last Sprint for Rio 2016

Let me introduce myself,

My name is Pierre Ouellet from Quebec City Canada. I am the former Aquathlon double world champion in 2012 and 2013, and ranked 5th in the world in paratriathlon in 2012.   A paratriathlete recognized as a great opponent, and athlete always finishing in the top of my category on the world stage since 2008. I have always represented a positive image for the International Triathlon Union for my strength of character and determination and my performance.  My life's goal it is to make the starting line in paratriathlon at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in September 2016, and I need your help to get there.

The next 11 months will require extreme personal and financial sacrifice in order to be in the best condition and have the most success in my qualifying races to get to Rio.  I have no corporate sponsorship (though I am delighted to welcome potential companies who may be interested), and have no support from my country's athletic federation in order to race, travel and train for the Games in September.  With the rigors of training, fueling, and recovering properly, I will have to dedicate myself full-time to my athletic pursuits in the winter season, putting my career as a massage therapist on a temporary hold.  Please read my story below:

Pierre Ouellet, paraplegic athlete Bio:

I own a massage therapy clinic, specializing in sports recovery inside of a well-established medical clinic. My clinic is located at in the physical education and sports pavilion at Laval University.  My talents and skills of more than 10 years in massage therapy are in high demand in Quebec City, giving me the opportinuty to teach massage therapy for treating athletes in my offices.

At age 12, I was a promising motocross athlete who already aspired to be a future champion and make it a professional career. In 1993, at age 16, I had a serious accident damaging my spinal cord,  and became a paraplegic.  Within three short years, I began competing in wheelchair races. I narrowly missed qualifications for the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and those of Greece in 2004.

After 5 years of retirement from the track as a wheelchair racer, I became Canadian National champion in paratriathlon in my very first year of competition! I finished with a bronze medal the following year at the World Championships. This began my return to top-level competition and a new opportunity to return to the Paralympic Games in an exciting new sport for athletes with disabilities.

I am honored to say that I am a reference and resource for the ITU triathlon union, offering advice on course layout and logistics for the wheelchair athlete's category. I am an ambassador here in Quebec in this discipline.  It is a blessing, as new para athletes call me frequently so I can offer them a helping hand, leads on adatptive equipment, and training and racing advice about this new Paralympic sport. I have also instituted a series of competitions with the Triathlon Québec Federation.

Thank you for your consideration and your extreme generosity in supporting this paratriathlete's dream of racing in the Paralympic Games.  EVERY dollar is utilized towards racing, training and travel, and it takes your support to get there.

With Gratitude,

Pierre Ouellet
