Grandmaster In Wan Kim Medical Support

Grandmaster In Wan Kim has dedicated his life to the Martial Arts.  He has prepared himself and thousands of children, teenagers, and adults to handle themselves should adversity confront them.  He has instilled confidence, perseverance, passion, respect, humility and physical ability in all those whose lives he has touched.  He has mentored many of his “god children” to greater things in their lives.  He has done the same for many friends and other martial artists though his seminars, online videos and thoughtful and inspiring messages he posts.  He demonstrates his love for the martial arts and his fellow man.

          Many of you have seen the Facebook posts from him indicating he is fighting an “uninvited demon” inside him.  The fact is he has been battling a nonmalignant lymphoma behind his left eye with radiation treatments.  The treatments have progressed very well, but unfortunately further tests revealed several cancerous tumors on his lungs and in his lymph nodes.  These are serious life-threatening tumors that must be treated immediately.


          This type of adversity is not overcome with kicks, strikes, locks and throws.   As those who know him would expect he has met this adversity with the mentally strong and steadfast determination of a true martial artist. He is ready and focused to fight with every ounce of energy he has.  He is determined and confident that he will “rise like a Phoenix and destroy the devil inside him”.   He is entering this fight with a top-notch team from Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.  His students and friends are at his side.  

          However, this fight requires more than a warrior’s spirit and emotional support.   Though insurance will cover many of the financial costs of this battle, out-of-pocket expenses for Grandmaster Kim and his family could exceed $100,000 in the first year for treatment and medications.  We have set $100,000 as our donation goal.  It is lofty, but it is not impossible for friends and especially martial artists who routinely challenge themselves to increase what is possible.

          We, his loyal students, are asking all who love, respect, admire and care for Grandmaster Kim to please consider helping him with financial support. This will help him through this fight and keep focused on the demon inside he is combating without being distracted and having to worry about how he can continue to provide for himself and his family.   He has given so much of himself to everyone throughout his life.  If you know him, you know what an impact he has made on you or on the event you organized or attended.  Many of you also know how he has led the fight in maintaining high standards in the martial arts and encouraging candor among practitioners.   

          Let’s please pay it back with anything you can now.  Please dwell on a donation amount and consider making a personal sacrifice.  If you can make an initial lump sum, that would relieve some initial financial pressure.  If you can make a monthly or periodic donation, that is a wonderful choice as well.  Most importantly, if “Sabomnin” has touched your life, please give something, however small.  He will greatly appreciate it and you will know that you have done some part.  The good you do will return to you in some way you do not imagine.
