Glynn's Long Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Some of you may or may not be aware but Glynn Pullen is currently in hospital in Perth recovering from a very traumatic few weeks.

Glynn lives in a small isolated community and is 1,600 kms away from home.  Her family understandably needs to be by her side during her recovery.  Having a child in hospital 1,600 kms from home  with 3 other children to care for emotionally and physically,  is tremendously expensive as well as stressful and emotionally draining.

Any contribution to help to make the Pullen family's life easier and aid in a supported recovery for Glynn is greatly appreciated.

Here are some incredibly difficult words to read that describe what they have been through in the past few weeks and to give you a perspective of the magnitude of what they have ahead.

On Saturday the 20th of April, Glynn contracted gastro. In the early hours of Wednesday 24th of April Glynn became delirious and we took her to the Paraburdoo hospital. A few hours later we were on the RFDS jet to Perth. The doctors, nurses and Ambos worked hard all the way to PCH with lights and sirens to keep our girl fighting.

Upon arrival, Glynn was taken straight to trauma resus where she had 2 cardiac arrests and she was in a coma. The surgeon came to tell me she didnt know if Glynn would make it to surgery and I should come in and see her. When I went to walk in, they were performing CPR again... There were tubes, lines and machines  everywhere. I kissed our baby and told her we loved her and that her Daddy was coming and begged her to keep fighting.

Glynn made it through surgery. She had burst her appendix and had 4 quadrant sepsis. She was kept in a coma for a few days intubated for longer as her whole body had shut down. Drugs kept her heart beating, machines kept her breathing and her brain oxygenated.

After the breathing tube came out, a high flow oxygen mask was used to strengthen her lungs but it didn’t work. Glynn crashed 5 more times in CCU as her lungs kept collapsing and had to be intubated again with nitrous added. After 15 long days Glynn finally made it to a ward and could breathe on her own. Two days after making it to the ward, Glynn got a lung infection but knowing her compromised immune system and condition the doctors were onto it fast.

Now we are starting the long road to recovery. Glynns right lung is still having problems. She has server nerve damage in her right leg and is in constant, uncontrolled pain. Her heart is weakened and her muscles wasted. She has complications from starvation and malnutrition and is covered in holes after all her veins have tracked and collapsed. Glynns stomach is also still open as they are still trying to rid her body of sepsis and get her strong enough to survive surgery when the time comes to close her up.

She has a long away before she can make it home.
