Glen Ellyn Speed Skating - Season

Every year our club operates by the generosity of volunteers who donate their time and energy to ensure the ongoing quality of the club. The financial aspect of club is funded largely by club members, intro programs and events, which essentially cover the cost of renting Ice space each year. However, there are always additional costs that we need to solve for, whether repairing or replacing equipment like Mats, skates and other items or doing something special, like we are this year.
This year we are hosting the 100th Annual Chicago Silver Skates meet. To celebrate this events centennial, we will be giving out medals that are throwbacks to the originals and custom made for this event. We even had the 1st Place medals made from pure silver. They will all be forever keepsakes for sure.
While the cost of running a meet is partially offset by entry fees, there will be a need to cover the "special" costs not to mention the ongoing desire to replace mats someday (matching would be nice), repairs , marketing efforts etc... Our current meet alone, for example, will cost approx $10,000 between Ice Rental, Food, Awards, Participant Pins and other misc expenses.
We humbly seek your charitable donation to help with the ongoing needs of the club so we may be able to someday have the abiltity to replace mats, consider other special events that can introduce the sport to new communities or even offering some assistance to others who may not otherwise be able to afford it.

Donations made here are collected by ASAI (Amateur Skating Association of Illinois) which is a charitable 501c3 Not for Profit corporation registered in Park Ridge, IL and may be tax deductable (consult your tax adviser).

Founded in 1938, GESS has a proud tradition of introducing skaters from ages 4 to 70+ to the sport of speedskating. Whether your goal is fun, fitness or pursuing an Olympic gold, GESS is the place to start! New skaters are invited to watch, try our introductory program, sign up for our Learn To Speedskate or join the club with advanced skaters. GESS is a member of the Amateur Skating Association of Illinois (ASAI) and US Speedskating. Our coaches are all certified with US Speedskating. The team draws members from the greater Chicagoland area including Wisconsin and Indiana. So come on out and see what speedskating is all about.
