Dear Friends,

My name is Guor Mading Maker. I am a professional marathoner, and a 2012 Olympian.  I have two dreams. One is to compete for South Sudan in the 2016 Olympics, and second is to be able to help train the next generation of South Sudanese runners.

You can help me achieve my dreams.

I would like to go to Iten, Kenya to train with other world class runners in the high altitude. In this environment I can focus on getting to be a stronger runner and try to make my country proud in the 2016 Olympics.

I have a coach there willing to help me and I have taken a risk and bought my plane ticket for early December.

2012 Olympics:

I was accepted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2012 to competed as an “independent  athlete” under the great Olympic flag because South Sudan was not yet a member of the IOC, and I was not US citizen at the time. I returned from the Olympic games with great experience and determination to train hard for the World Championship in 2015 and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Where the Funding Will Go:

To achieved my goals, however, I most need to follow right program, in the right environment, and above all havefinancial assistance for the next two years. With enough funding, I can go to Kenya and focus on training until the Olympic games. With more funding, I can bring along five to six South Sudanese runners to train with me. The estemination cost to train in Kenya for two years is an estimated  $25,000.

My Background:

I was born in South Sudan in Africa and migrated to United States in 2001. I started running in 2002 at Concord High School in Concord, NH. In 2005, I was granted an athletic scholarship to attend Iowa State University and there I became an All-American athlete. I went on to study in chemistry and graduated with B.S in Chemistry. I moved right after my graduation to Flagstaff, AZ, to train for the 2012 Olympic games.

A few days ago CNN just published a story on about my life you can read it here:  http://bit.ly/CNNmylife

I am Grateful:

So my friends, I'm asking for your support and help me achieve my dream. A little donation can make big difference. I believe with your kind support, I could help bring a long lasting unity to the people of South Sudan through sport.

Thank you very much for your support.

Sincerely,

Guor Maker

Dear Friends, Families, and Supporters,

I want to seize this opportunity to inform you with regret that, I have not qualified for the Rio Olympic. As result, I will not take part in the game.

I have attempted marathon on July 3, 2016 in Gold Coast Australia, unfortunately, I collapsed at 100m to 40km mark due to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) level in the body. I was treated for 5 hours and discharged from the hospital after my health became stabilize. My health is currently back to normal and I have resumed my training. The national Olympic Committee (NOC) of South Sudan in respond, have selected two unqualified athletes to represent South Sudan in the Olympic. I have fully respect their decision and I give my best wishes to the athletes and the officials. I will continue my best effort to help the youth to promote athletic throughout South Sudan. Our unity as South Sudanese, is far more fruitful than our differences.

I'm glad to see that the legacy I have started in 2012 with your endless supports and encouragements, have led to the recognition of the South Sudan National federation and National Olympic Committee. A word can't describe how much I have appreciated the loves and supports you have given me in last four years. I wish my performance could have turn out differently. I will always keep you all in my heart, with deeply appreciation and gratitude.

With gratitude,

Guor Miading Miaker

Dear Friends, families, and supporters. I hope you have all been doing well. It's my pleasure to inform you that I have been accepted to compete in Gold Coast Airport marathon in Australia, which will be held on July 2, 2016. I will use this opportunity to qualify for the Rio Olympic in August. I sent a last minute request to the event. As the result, the race organizer doesn't have enough fund left to covere my travel to Australia and staying accommodation. However, they provided bib number and registeration, which I'm very thankful for.

The cost to travel to Australia and back is $3000.00. Airline ticket from Phoenix Arizona to Gold Coast Airport, Australia is $1773.00. And $1227.00 will covers hotel(6nights), food and transportation from the airport to hotel, and within the area and back to airport.

I'M ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT TO GENERATE THIS $3000. HELP ME ACHIEVE THE JOURNEY WE TOGETHER STARTED 4 YEARS AGO. WE ARE ONE STEP CLOSER TO OUR GOAL. YOUR HUMBLE SUPPORTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED. STAY BLESS.
