#GivingTuesday LOT2545

LOT2545 works in Kampala, Uganda with teenage boys that call the streets home.  We help them to find a life off of the streets through providing opportunities for education, counseling, and skills training.

The boys end up on the streets for a variety of reasons, but one of the main reasons is unsafe home situations. They run away from home to escape incredibly abuse, only to find worse on the streets.  They are frequently beaten, abused, and unjustly arrested while on the street.  People tend to treat them in extremes; either pretend they don't exist or treat them worse than trash.  The older a boy gets on the streets, the less opportunity he has of escaping and finding a different life.  Once he reaches 13 or so, the opportunities almost completely disappear.  Most organizations willing to help completely overlook the older boys.  They consider them too addicted to drugs, too wild and independent, and less likely to change.

However, we know differently and these are the boys that we choose to focus on.  We know that with a little help and love, they are able to change, overcome their pasts, and have bright futures.

One challenge that we face working with the oldest boys, 17+, is finding the right opportunity for them.  School is not always an option because some of the boys have been out of school for years or never studied at all.  There also are not many opportunities for employment, in general, and especially for a youth from the street with no education and no experience.  This leads them into a very dangerous life just to survive and makes people despise them even more. The only two places where they can possible end up are dead or in prison. We know that they can be more than the choices they are forced into and we want to provide them an option for something better.

This #GivingTuesday we have set a goal to help 14 boys get off the street and started in their new life.  We have seen success in helping boys to start small businesses.  Once given the opportunity, they choose to work.  They choose to make their lives different and focus on a future that doesn't involve the street.

All of the money from this campaign will be used to help 14 boys start a new life:
-Two boys want to train to be drivers
-Three boys want to sell shoes
-Four want to start a movie/small
                    electronics/music shop
-Two want to work together to make a clothing
                    boutique
-One wants to start making sandals
-One wants to make a chapati/snack food stand
                  -One wants to sell clothes

When you give to this campaign, you will be giving to directly change a young man's life.  It will allow him the chance to leave the streets behind and give him the opportunity to work for his future.

Thank you so much for supporting us and our efforts to get these boys off the street.

Kansiime and Akim want to work together to make the boutique.  They are best friends and if you need one, you only have to find the other.

Arafa wants to start a video/music/small electronics shop.
