Twenties for Turkeys 2017

This has been a Just Alexandria Annual tradition started in 2014. Alexandria is a National Pageant Queen that uses her title to serve the Houston/Humble/Atascocita/Kingwood Community. Her platform is raising awareness for Domestic Violence. Her organization, B.E.A.T. D.V. (Becomong Educated and Aware Together about Domestic Violence) caters to small local DV Shelters providing them with hair care services, clothing, holiday parties, and back to school supplies. Twenties for Turkeys provides the best Thanksgiving feast to a local shelter.
Alexandria, along with the help of her family and friends, wake up early on Thanksgiving day to cook and head to the shelter to transform the space for a Thanksgiving family gathering just as she would have with her family. It's not just about providing food and leaving, her and the team love to decorate and involve the residents. The team serves the residents and then sit down and eat with them as a family. We usually feed 50+ women and children in several locations.
Around this time of the year, the pantries and freezer are running low (even more so after the recent hurricanes that affected the Houston Area). The funds from this campaign are also used to buy leg quarters, chicken breast, ground beef, canned goods, and drinks for the on-site kitchen.
Alexandria's involvement started in 2012 after her cousin LaKendra D. Ware was murdered by her boyfriend in May 2011. LaKendra's body was found thrown behind an apartment complex wrapped in a comforter set. It's Alexandria's mission to continue to share the story of Kendra in order to help save someone's life.
