Hope for the Holidays
My friend Tara is a social worker at Mississippi Heights Elementary school in Sauk Rapids, MN. Over the years she has watched parents struggle to make ends meet, especially during the holiday season. Many of the kids come to school without jackets or clothes that fit and often aren't afforded even the most basic necessities that most of us take for granted. Their parents often sacrifice their well-being to give their children even the simplest of gifts. They are humble and do not ask for help, often because they are afraid of being criticized, humiliated or feeling ashamed.
Tara felt she needed to help these children and their parents have a great Holiday and relieve some of the pressure in their lives. It may only last a little while, but the memories can last a lifetime.
She decided to start an anonymous program that provides these parents the ability to give their families a good holiday. She recruited friends, family, coworkers and people in the community to adopt these families and purchase them gifts and necessities without anyone knowing who gave them or received them.
The problem she is facing is that the number of families needing help is growing faster than the number of people with the means and willingness to do it. This is where you can help. We are creating a pool of money that will be used to take care of all the families that do not get adopted because everyone deserves to have a good Holiday season. It also gives you the ability to help even if you can't afford to adopt an entire family. Every dollar counts, and your donation will ensure that a child will have a better Holiday this year. I think we can all agree that a child should never have to wake up and think Santa forgot about them, and no parent should have to look at their child knowing they cannot afford to put a gift under the tree and feel that burden of disappointing them.
Entrust us with your money and we promise you that 100% of every dollar donated will go directly to the families that need it. We will never spend your money for operational costs of any kind. We also promise that every family we help truly needs it as we know the parents, the children and their situation. Together we can give families hope this Holiday season, and let them know that they matter.
These families live in our community, they support our businesses, the kids are friends with our kids, they work here, and you may even know them. They support us, it is time we do our best to support them.
Our deadline for donations is December 15th, 2017, so we have enough time to purchase, wrap and deliver gifts to families in time for the Holidays.
