TWELVE  CHICAGO KIDS FROM SOUTH-SIDE TRACK CLUB ADVANCE TO USATF  HERSHEY JUNIOR NATIONAL OLYMPIC TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHICAGO, IL (July. 15, 2019) – All roads are leading to Sacramento, California, as twelve southside youth ages 8-17 are now one step closer to becoming National USA Track and Field Junior Olympians.

Members of Woodlawn-based Saints Track Club dominated in Joliet, Illinois this past weekend at the Regional USATF Outdoor Championships, beating out their competitors in shot put, long jump, javelin, 80 meter hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m races

***The event, scheduled for July 22 - 28 at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California, marks the 53rd  year of the competition with youth participating from all around the country.  The southside however will be represented very well with the following qualifiers:

Addison Allen(11): Shot Put, Discus (set personal record)

Lyric Artwell (10): Shot Put, Javelin (set personal record)

John Green(15):  400m, 4x4 relay

Jesse Guereca (14): 400m, 4x4 relay

Alex Hunter(9): Shot Put, Javelin (set personal record)

Audrey Hunter(12): 200m Hurdles

Nick Kiley: 4x4 relay

Alex Kiley: 4x4 relay

Dion Trotter Jr(12): 200m Hurdles

Jasmine Davis(17): Shot Put

Maddie  Weathersby(11): Long Jump, 800m

Malcolm Bevens: Triple Long Jump, 4x4 relay

“With so much negative news about our youth and the south side, we’re thrilled to be the example of a program that keeps kids engaged in activities that build character, teaches them responsibility and creates a strong work ethic. It has been an exciting outdoor season for the club watching these kids train tirelessly four days a week, 2 hours each day, in Jackson Park. Everyone has evolved and improved upon their past efforts with many setting personal records on the state and regional levels” says Heraldo Morrison, head coach and founder of the track club.
