Give Ksenia a Chance to Live

I’m collecting money for a little girl named Ksenia Mishaeva. I want to tell the story of this little girl.
Ksenia was born in Moscow, Russia on March 19, 2015. Her birth was much anticipated by her parents since she was the first and only child in the family. At birth, Ksenia was healthy. The appearance of Ksenia in this world was a moment of blessing for her parents, as is with all the other parents witnessing, experiencing the birth of their first child.

By the end summer of 2016, Ksenia’s parents noticed that Ksenia was more frequently losing interest in things, showing signs of weakness. They took her right away to see a doctor. After few preliminary tests, they found the hemoglobin level to be low, prescribing her iron containing medications. About a week later, Ksenia was experiencing poorer symptoms of weakness, she stopped playing, watching cartoons, and she lost the appetite. After these new alarming signs, the parents took Ksenia again to the Doctor, to see what was wrong. A different set of tests were administered, after which it was determined that Ksenia had “Retroperitoneal Neuroblastoma, Stage 4-high-risk-group” (cancer). Retroperitoneal Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that is most commonly found in children. The tumor forms in certain types of nerve tissue. It frequently starts from one of the adrenal glands. It turned out, the disease was developing in her body without any symptoms and it was only detected very late at stage 4.

As soon she was diagnosed, she underwent numerous medical procedures with some side effects, including:
·         6 cycles of heavy chemotherapy
·         Few complicated surgeries involving removing the tumor (85%) from the left adrenal gland
·         MIBG therapy used with radiopharmaceutical medicine
·         High-dose chemotherapy & Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation (PBSCT)
·         Side effects from chemotherapy (burned intestines & skin burns)

After all these medical interventions, the pain left Ksenia for awhile. Ksenia started to recover; she was returning slowly to a normal life, she was again relearning how to walk. In this picture Ksenia is during the remission of her disease, helping her mother to cook.

Unfortunately the recovery progression didn’t last for too long. Despite the remission, after approximately 2 months the doctors detected a relapse in her condition. This time it was established that the cancer cells reacted poorly to the medications, the tumor was growing again putting pressure on other organs in the body causing unbearable pain for the child.

The doctors in Russia were unable to help Ksenia. Her parents contacted numerous hospitals across the world, and only one hospital Samsung Medical Center, South Korea decided to give Ksenia a second chance, and hope for the parents.

With the help of volunteers, family members, social networks the parents were able to collect $67,800. Soon after, Ksenia was transported via air to South Korea, Seoul.

On September 15, 2017 Ksenia arrived at Samsung Medical Center-Seoul, South Korea. After a thorough evaluation, the doctors agreed to start the recovery process for Ksenia. They agreed to place her on chemotherapy (High-dose chemotherapy for 6 cycles & PBSCT).

September 19, 2017 she underwent the first block of chemotherapy, she deal with it in a very brave manner.

In the beginning, the doctors said that the tumor reacted to the chemotherapy. However, the sixth day was very nerve wrecking for the parents and hard on Ksenia, the blood indicators were not good, she underwent blood transfusion.

The circumstances that this family is enduring are very unpredictable and unstable, with a lot of risk. Ksenia is not giving up for sure; she has two loving parents that love her and a full life ahead of her that needs to be lived.

Ksenia’s parents never leave her alone. They don’t always have the opportunity to answer to the messages or requests you send them right away. Right now they need your help, the material and spiritual help, to normalize Ksenia’s life again. Such medical conditions like Ksenia’s, is a test in our humanity to help each other in times of need. Regardless of how hard is the life on her, this little girl will fight for her life, and we can help her on this mission by providing the necessary resources to fight her disease.
