Connection Church is a non-denominational church in Medina, Ohio. We're real people on a real journey with each other and our community to "love and lead all people into a fully-alive connection with God."
We're asking for your help in "Giving Hope: Locally and Globally."
Our project is two-fold:
1) We will strengthen our sister church, Gospel Harvest Ministries , in Nairobi, Kenya, in their endeavor to care for 147 orphans whom they educate and feed. This takes place in a school we helped them build in 2008 and have supported them in growing over the years. Pastor Lawrence Owino of GHM grew up on the streets as an orphan himself and began looking for a church to partner with who would release what God had put into him into the lives of others. They have furthered this vision with our help, adding other support along the way. Their expenses for 2017 are around $13,000 USD for food, textbooks, teachers and facility to care for all kids - from babies to sixth grade, and beyond.
2) We will strengthen our local efforts as a church in reaching everyday people who have often-unspoken needs in their lives, families and homes. Connection Church is, in a sense, a church "for the rest of us" who don't quite know where we fit in (if at all) into God. Our newest innovation involves partnering with another congregation, House of Glory International Church, whom we invited to share space with us in our facility so that our cooperative efforts in reaching all people from all backgrounds are even greater. We are raising $13,000 to help with shortfalls in our operating expenses so that we can continue to have the simple space to serve kids, teens and adults alike as we continue to effectively innovate living out our vision.
We're starting out with a goal of $13,000. The real goal is twice that at $26,000, but if we can get halfway together then maybe we'll realize we can then reach the real goal the rest of the way, too. We would then enlarge the goal here on GoFundMe to reflect that success and keep going. Every dollar given is split equally between both goals.
The funds are needed for 2017, so your timely pledge and sharing this opportunity within your circle of friends will put us there.
Connection Church is Christ-centered and Bible-based, taking the ancient and eternal truths and putting them into everyday language. Think C.S. Lewis having a conversation with Jimmy fallon... or a classic hymn writer jamming with Bon Jovi.
You can come as you are.... you can take your next step with God... you can BE the Church. We invite you to belong before you believe, and even if you don't place your faith in Jesus you'll get to hang out with some of the greatest, most authentic people you'd ever hope to call friends.
Highlights from our ministry over the past 14 years include:
- A four-year newspaper column that reached 63,000 people weekly in the Cleveland/Akron suburbs.
- Creating a "Rice and Beans" Challenge where we raised funds for Gospel Harvest Ministries by eating what they eat for a week. Recognition on this event included USAToday, NBC and Fox News Outlets.
- Annual Back-to-School-Fests that blessed an entire series of apartment complexes with backpacks and school supplies through a fun carnival-like event.
- A monthly food pantry ministry that served our county.
- Creating "Love Medina" - an annual partneship between the Mayor's Office and area churches to serve the elderly and sick around their homes.
- Hosting multiple outreaches for area families, including creative Vacation Bible School events, "Dress for the Mess" game nights, a daily summer concession stand that served the area baseball league and more.
- Lead local Men's Conferences and Ladies' Night Out, along with "Creative Date Nights" for couples and "The Amazing Race" for friends/family looking to grow together.
- Serving as a key team member of "Healthy Medina" with partners that include the Cleveland Clinic, the City of Medina, the Medina Mayor's Office, Medina City Schools, Medina Library and more.
We are not asking you to give to us if it means taking away from your regular support to another church or endeavor.
Rather, we are asking for you to have a generous spirit beyond your normal giving habits so that real needs are really met out of your real vision to "Give Hope: Locally and Globally."
