Today, Friday, October 14th of 2016, we lost Luis Pinheiro ("Gito") to an unfortunate battle with brain cancer.
Gito, who was born on the island of São Vicente in Cabo Verde, was husband to Lena Sousa Santos Pinheiro and the father to two incredible young boys, Daniel and David. Daniel is in his first year of college at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and David is a Junior in High School.
Shortly after being layed off from his job in January of this year Gito was diagnosed with an inoperable form of brain cancer. During this period of time the family lived off their savings and only a brief period with social security disability at a small 25% of his original income.
Within just a few short months Gito became partially paralyzed and became unable to walk, feed himself or perform any common personal tasks. His wife Lena was immediately forced to take family leave from work to become Gito's primary care giver.
Futhermore, due to being layed off, Gito's life insurance, which was a portion of his benefit package, was immediately cancelled. The funds they have in their 401k cannot be accessed until Lena is 59, and if accessed they would face a massive penalty.
We are asking for all family, friends, acquaintances and even caring strangers to please come together to help this increble family who unfortunately today has been decreased by one. The funds raised will be used to assist with all services related to Gito's passing as well as to keep the family up and running over the next six months.
