Gissell Leukemia Treatment/Medula para Gissell

Hi, I am Gissell Luna Barreto. I am 45 years old, and I am the mother of Luis Enrique, a wonderful 5 year old. I am 45 years old. I am a clinical psychologist , with a specialty in psycho oncology, and I work at the Especialidades Eguenio Espejo Hospital, and I have been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Since August 2018th I have been under medical treatment with different types of chemotherapy. Sadly, my body hasn’t responded as we were expecting to the chemotherapy cycles, and I am in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant to be able to keep myself alive and continue helping my clients, their relatives, and watch my son grow, I am in need to ask for economic help that Will allow me to cover the medical expenses that are neccesary for me to keep on living. On the attached following documents of this letter, you Will find al lof the information that ratify my request, and also the Budget that has been made by a medical organization (hospital). This Budget has been previously evaluated to my specific tratment for healing.


This is not a hasty decision. I have thought about it a lot. I am aware that I have always been a strong woman, as well as a fighter, and this is perhaps one of the most complex situations that I have to face in my life. I am an only child, and as you can see, I do not have a chance to ask to my siblings to become donors, and I see myself in the need to look for an international donor through the Donation Bank. This is why the study of my case, pre treatment and transplant Will be done in Argentina.


Now you can understand why there is no way for me to give up. I am young, full of life, and with a 5 year old son that gives me strenght. Someone that I do love very much used to say “If death comes find me, it should find me fighting”, and that is exactly what I am doing. I do believe in the chances to get a transplant as a way towards my recovery with Good chances to get better, because I am not making this decision based on “fantasy”, or from the “neccesity to believe”, I am doing it based on the extensive medical experience of the Austral University Hospital based on cases like mine.


My son, my family, my Friends and my patients are the motor for me to get the resources that I need. This is why I turn to you all to give me a han don this. We all have had experienced at least once the situation of having a family relative or a close friend with a Cancer diagnose, so this can help you understand the importance of giving a hand to people like me to keep me holding on to life. Luis Enrique, my son, represents for me the obligation to keep the hopes up, and this pushes me to not give up and to ask for your help at any moment that I find myself into with this disease. This way, my life wont depend on the chances of having economic resourses, but much more from the Will that whe all have to keep on living, helping and making the world a better place to live.

Hola, soy Gissell Luna Barreto. Tengo 45 años, madre de Luis Enrique un maravilloso niño de 5 años. Me formé como psicóloga clínica además de especialista en psico-oncología, trabajo en el Hospital de Especialidades Eugenio Espejo y tengo un diagnóstico de Leucemia Linfoblástica Aguda. Desde agosto de 2018 he estado en tratamiento con diversos protocolos de quimioterapia. Lamentablemente mi cuerpo no ha respondido como esperábamos a los ciclos de quimioterapia y requiero con carácter de urgencia un trasplante de médula ósea para poder mantenerme con vida y continuar ayudando a mis pacientes, a sus familiares y ver crecer a mi niño, me veo en la necesidad de solicitar una ayuda económica que me permita cubrir los costes médicos indispensables para seguir viviendo. En los documentos adjuntos a esta misiva encontrará toda la información que ratifica mi solicitud, y también el presupuesto emitido por una entidad hospitalaria que, tras previo estudio de mi caso, me ofrece una alternativa de curación.

No es esta una decisión precipitada, me he planteado mucho y con plena consciencia recurrir a este paso, siempre he sido una mujer fuerte y luchadora y esta es quizás una de las situaciones más complejas a las que me he enfrentado. Soy hija única por lo que no puedo acudir a hermanos como donantes y me veo obligada a solicitar un donante internacional. Es por eso que el estudio, los tratamientos previos y el propio trasplante se realizaría en Argentina.


Entenderán que siendo joven, llena de vitalidad y con un hijo de corta edad, no hay manera de entregarme. Alguien a quien quiero mucho decía “si la muerte viene a buscarme, que me encuentre peleando” y en eso estoy. Creo en la posibilidad del trasplante como una vía factible para mi recuperación, pues está apoyada no en la fantasía o en la “necesidad de creer”, sino en la enorme experiencia médica del Hospital Universitario Austral en casuísticas como la mía.


Mi hijo, mi familia, mis amigos y mis pacientes, son el motor de mi búsqueda de recursos. Por eso acudo a usted y por eso necesitaría que me tendieran la mano, todos hemos tenido alguna vez algún familiar o amigo cercano con diagnóstico de cáncer, de modo que sabrá que la fuerza del afecto y de las manos tendidas son siempre un aliciente que nos sujeta a la vida. Para mí, Luis Enrique, mi hijo, representa la obligación de mantener la esperanza y me empuja a no declinar y a solicitar ayuda allí donde estuviere, para que mi vida no dependa de la posibilidad de un recurso económico, sino de la voluntad humana porque todos tengamos las mismas oportunidades de seguir viviendo, ayudando y haciendo del mundo un lugar mejor para vivir.
