Help Inspire Canadian Girls

Would you like to see more young people getting outside to practice leadership, curiosity, confidence, and success? What about seeing more female youth empowered to pursue scientific careers?

Three years ago, we started the process of launching Girls on Ice Canada to get girls outside doing just that! Girls on Ice Canada is a mountaineering science adventure and learning experience for Canadian girls from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

You may know about Inspiring Girls Expeditions, a tuition-free transformative leadership opportunity for teenage girls. Inspiring Girls Expeditions has a proven track record of developing scientific, artistic, and leadership skills in female youth for nearly 20 years in the United States. Girls on Ice Canada, a sister program of Inspiring Girls Expeditions, aims to bring these opportunities to Canadian girls, too.

Your donation will give our girls a chance to learn about science, art, and leadership from female role models as they are exposed to new career paths. Girls on Ice Canada aims to:

- Foster increased self-efficacy and critical thinking skills;
- Expose and develop outdoor field skills in a remote and inspiring environment;
- Create lifelong advocates for the scientific process and its role in public policy; and
- Develop self-confidence in leadership and pave the way for the leaders of tomorrow.

We are nearly ready to launch Girls on Ice Canada this August. After countless hours of planning and preparation, we have our permits, our route, and our instructor team. Most exciting of all, we have our girls!

These six girls from across Canada will meet in Calgary on August 8th. They will travel with a team of professional scientists, mountain guides and artists to Glacier National Park, BC. From there we will help them explore the park while learning about scientific inquiry, mountain movement, and blending artistic practice into everyday ways of seeing. The girls will build confidence to undertake a scientific research project and climb a peak in the Illecillewaet Valley. After 10 days we will return to the foothills outside Calgary for a public presentation by the girls and time for reflection before everyone returns home.

We need your help to ensure we can provide this life-changing experience for our six students. Girls on Ice Canada still needs resources to provide travel assistance to the girls, food for the expedition, transportation for the whole team to and from the trailhead, and mountaineering boot rentals for each of our six girls. Providing a high quality, tuition-free experience such as Girls on Ice Canada costs, at minimum, $20,000. We have already raised just over $15,000. We can purchase these remaining items to make our expedition a reality if we raise $5,000 by July 1, 2018. Will you help us make this expedition a reality for our six girls by donating?
