Gina was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), which is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood. ALL progresses rapidly without effective treatment, and it does not have a clear cause. Gina is currently admitted at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan and will undergo treatment for the next eight months.
Like any complex disease, ALL comes with medically related complications. Gina has already experienced a stroke, leading to vision disturbance and short-term memory loss. She has already received transfusions, blood separation and cleaning procedures, and several treatments of chemotherapy. She continues to undergo extensive testing in order to determine the extent of the disease and assess the associated problems. ALL presents social and psychological challenges for the sufferer and all those who care for her. Probably one of the greatest challenges lies in maintaining a healthy outlook and above all else, hope. Finally, diseases like ALL present financial challenges (e.g., medical expenses, meals, travel, loss of pay and, eventually, home care).
Our family remains hopeful and we humbly ask for your support with any or all of the aforesaid trials and tribulations. Many friends and family have reached out to us, asking how they can help. Eventually, Gina should be able to receive visitors, but not at this time, as her immune system is significantly compromised. In the meantime, your donations would dramatically improve quality of life for the next several months for Gina, her husband Tony, and her two children—Meadow and Max. No gift would be too small and all will go towards the abovementioned expenses. Thank you in advance for your friendship and love.
