Support Homeless Queer Youth In LA

Nationally, 1 in 10 young adults ages 18 to 25 experience some form of homelessness in a year. For those identifying as LGBTQ, their risk for experiencing homelessness is 120 percent higher than those not within the LGBTQ community. Thirty-five percent, or 3,477 of the 9,935 youths experiencing homelessness in Los Angles this year identify as LGBTQ.
The Los Angeles LGBT Center has a special program geared towards queer youth, which offers housing/housing referrals, food, showers, recreation, employment opportunities, testing, and more! Up to 32 queer youths from 18-24 lives at the center in temporary housing at a time, where they are given a safe place to stay, support, and help as they journey through their transition from youth to adulthood.
Although many basic needs are met, the youths still need items outside those offered by the Center. Plus, just like anyone and perhaps more so, these youths need to know that there is a vast community out there rooting for their success and happiness.
That’s why this year The 26 plans to raise $4000 to buy necessities and gifts for youths living at the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
The money will allow us to buy:
Twin comforters
Shower necessities
Sanitary Items
Socks
Undergarments
Headphones
Gift cards
Chocolate
Peppermint canes
Christmas cards
And more!
