Gift Gladys Her Freedom

Hello Friends,

I have created this page to assist a woman who needs our help to stay in Spain with her two sons and husband. On October 10th she is expected to appear before court to prove she has documents to stay in this country. Without the money for these documents she is facing 60 months custody and deportation.

Added to this, her husband is sick and cannot work. Her family relies on her for money, food and shelter. With this help she will be able to stay with her family and keep them out of homelessness.

Her Story:

Gladys moved to Spain in 2002 with her 6 month old son to join her husband who left Nigeria in search for a better life. They welcomed their second son in 2005. They worked at the same company to support their family, he worked as a contractor and she cleaned. In 2014 they were laid off and were forced to find new employment. They continued to hold down odd jobs for the next year but it was becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet. With the money they had saved and support from a helpful friend they were able to stay in their home.

By January 2017, money had run out and they lost their home. Gladys' family moved into temporary housing. It was very expensive, (40 Eur/day) so they began to beg for money to stay out of homelessness. That same year her husband was diagnosed with heart problems, he had collapsed a few times and their doctor recommended he stay away from stressful situations and should avoid work as much as possible. Eventually their family could no longer afford temporary housing and had a 490 Eur debt with their landlady so they were kicked out.

By 2019 Gladys and her family were living on the streets. In March of that year, the police found Gladys on the streets, questioned her and she ended up getting arrested because she had failed to renew her Spanish residency documents in 2017. She was released with a warning and given 6 months to present her documents.

On September 28th, 2019 she was informed that the police had set a court date for October 10th. She will have to prove to them that she will have documents, otherwise she is facing up to 60 months in custody and likely deportation.

Funds will be used for:

1800 Eur to assist with documents and legal fees.
700 Eur for rent and food for 5 months for their family.

Thank you in advance for your time and support. Her family will be extremely grateful for anything you can give, but please be generous as this is a very sensitive situation and I hope to relieve some of her stress as soon as possible!
