Welcome to Gideon’s Garden!
Our son Gideon was born 4 years ago with cerebral palsy which has left him unable to sit upright on his own, swallow properly, eat solid foods, speak, or walk. He requires around-the-clock care, which has resulted in considerable financial strain. More recently, he was diagnosed with epilepsy as well. We are looking to fund $250,000 towards the development of a hemp farm, and hopefully, our home. We hope to grow a low-cost, high-quality variety of hemp that will produce a large supply of CBD oil, a known natural anti-seizure treatment. CBD has been shown to greatly reduce seizure intensity and frequency as well as assist with come common problems associated with cerebral palsy.
Our Moment of Terrifying Clarity
In November of 2016, Gideon had his first 2 seizures ever at 2 years old. While doctors did warn us that his 3 different brain malformations would cause him to be at high risk for seizure disorders, we had always hoped for the best.
Since the day Gideon was diagnosed with CP, we have dreamed of building our own small hemp farm to serve his medical needs and the needs of this ever-growing community here in Colorado. However, after seeing our son so frightened as the seizure wracked his body, we are driven more so now than ever before to reach this goal and do so as quickly as possible.
Hopeful for the Future, In Desperate Times
Hemp is the future for us as well as our nation. Many states are opening up to the industrial hemp marketplace. This could provide numerous jobs and create a new, environmentally green market. We seek to grow industrial hemp for the purpose of making CBD oil as well as producing hemp for hempcrete and similar "green" endeavors.
By making an all-natural, high-potency medication for Gideon, we will not only be able to take him off of other medications which are far more harmful (many with disastrous internal and psychological side effects), but we will also be able to produce the same quality medicine for other children and adults who have various seizure disorders and cerebral palsy.
While researching this treatment method, we realized that the current monthly out-of-pocket cost for this product can range from $300-$500 per month. Our goal as a family would be to bring that cost down considerably, allowing families (like ours) who cannot afford that cost to receive a quality product that can improve their lives.
With this investment in his quality of life, we will be able to generate a reasonable profit from the plant matter, seeds, and materials left over by making hemp textiles, food products, and even industrial strength building materials. This would offset the price of the CBD oil, allowing us to sell them to families at a drastically lower price point with our ultimate goal of providing it for FREE to low income families with special needs children.
As we grow, we hope to employ veterans in varying roles, thereby keeping more families off of the streets. A long-term goal that we would see through, hopefully beginning in the third growing season, is to provide small hemp farms to other special needs families like ours (this could include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, down syndrome, etc.). They would have gainful employment in a growing industry and we would only ask 25% of the profit in perpetuity. So, you see, our goal is not one that is solely self-serving. We want to give back to as many families as we can.
Where Your Money is Going
We will be using donated money to purchase land (the property we are looking at is in the picture above!), all required farming equipment, as well and to provide shelter for our family while we are building out this incredible dream.
We are hoping to purchase the property and equipment we require before springtime so that when the snow melts, we can break ground and get growing right away.
Driven to Help Our Child and Ready for Hard Work
We are truly looking for a miracle here. We have this one, singular chance to change our family's future and hopefully ensure that our son no longer has to endure potentially harmful drugs to keep his seizures at bay, especially when we can produce a safe and viable alternative. Our dream is one of medical assistance for our sweet boy, an investment into assistance for families like ours, and environmentally "green" jobs. Thank you so much just for coming here and taking the time to decide if our dream is worth your support.
Our family will be forever grateful and hope that you will support our dream!
