Sean McNulty Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Shelley McNulty and this fund is for my brother, Sean McNulty, who is battling multiple medical conditions.

On March 7th, Sean was admitted to St. David’s North Austin Medical Center for what seemed to be a minor sickness, but resulted in something far worse. With each passing day, Sean’s health deteriorated and his body began failing him. On March 14th, he was diagnosed with acute renal failure. His kidneys stopped functioning and doctors began dialysis in hopes of reviving them. The next day Sean was rushed to the ICU for puzzling symptoms – extremely high blood pressure, extreme headaches and pain, difficulty breathing, and numbing of his entire face, hands and feet. He was put on a respirator on March 17th. After many tests, doctors finally diagnosed him with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) – a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the nervous system. This syndrome is very rare. For Sean, it has caused nerve damage, respiratory failure and partial paralysis.

Today Sean is still in the ICU and hooked up to a ventilator. Five different specialists are working on his case. He is undergoing dialysis for 3-4 hours nearly every day for his kidney failure. They are treating GBS with an immunoglobulin treatment, which is done for a few days every couple of weeks. He is in constant pain throughout his entire body, and heavily sedated to make him more comfortable. He has been able to communicate with his family through minimal sign language and movement of his hands and head.

Doctors have confirmed Sean’s recovery will take a long time – months to years, even. GBS takes a very long time from which to recover and no one knows if he will have a reoccurrence of this condition in the future. In addition, we are unsure if his kidneys will function again. It is very possible he may have to continue dialysis indefinitely or require a transplant.

We are creating this fund to help Sean with the huge medical expenses from these concurrent conditions and to generate a source of income for him and his kids while he recovers. Since he works in a commission-based business supplemented by shifts in the service industry, he has no income throughout this experience. He will have an extensive stay in the hospital and likely longer at a rehabilitation facility for critical chronic care. We have no definite release date and expenses will only continue to accumulate.

For those of you who know Sean, you know that he is a very outgoing, charismatic, good-hearted guy. He has impacted many lives from growing up in Yakima, Washington, living in Seattle, DJing, working in the service industry, working at ACL and other music festivals, and helping people find and sell homes as a Keller Williams agent. His two children are his driving force. This is a very unfortunate event that has left Sean with no source of income for living expenses for quite some time, not to mention growing medical costs. So every donated amount counts! Sean and his entire family thank you for your support through this challenging time.
