CLOSED2015 Get Travis back to Camp
Donation protected
Travis is my 13 year old son who has Autism, he has the biggest heart and the best smile, and he is learing to live with ASD (as are the rest of us). Last year a Social Worker with a program he was attending approached us and asked if we thought Travis might like to attend Camp Kennebec, a summer camp for individuals, ages 7 and older, who have special needs. We were unsure of how Travis would react to the suggestion - going to camp had not been something that had been positive in the past and he had never been to a sleep away camp - but we sat down with him, told him about the camp, explained that it was for people with special needs and asked him what he thought. He was ecstatic, he wanted to go, said it would be cool to go somewhere that "people would get him". Last year we lucked out and the Social Worker that had made the suggestion was able to obtain full funding for us. This year we are no longer in the program, meaning we no longer have the Social Worker as a resource, we have yet to find a funding program, and financially we are unable to afford to fund camp ourselves. While Travis would love to attend camp for 4 weeks (when we picked him up after his 2 weeks at camp back in July he told us that it had been so much fun that next year he would like to go for 4 weeks) $7600.00 seems very far beyond our reach. Therefore we will try and obtain a 2 week stay at $4700.00. Thanks for reading - every little bit helps in getting Travis back to Camp Kennebec and the posive experiences and friendships that go along with it.
