This fundraiser has been created in order to assist my brother with post-op medical expenses he is being slammed with and additional medical expenses (medication) which are rising from week-to-week. He has had many different procedures and been under anesthesia roughly ten times in just slightly over a year.
His most recent operation, at the beginning of January, involved a copay that I simply cannot cover, and neither can he. Savings, valuables, etc., have been wiped clean. To add insult to injury, he was been robbed three times since August of last year and I cannot get in touch with him.
At the beginning of November 2015, he had a quadruple bypass. He is in his early 30s and should not be enduring this. (Note: Some of these photos are graphic.)
This is the wound he was left with post-op, once they removed tubes and all the things packing him up. I was not permitted to see him until all of that came out (He was afraid of my reaction.).
They harvested arteries out of both thighs to re-route his heart. The swelling is now non-existent, but was very bad when these photos were snapped.
During post-op release he had to wear a Life Vest for six months. Total cost? $18,000. Even better, when it was returned, the hospital lost it! I am still arguing with them over whose responsibility the loss is.
He has since had additional procedures, including three operations on both wrists due to "We don't know how you got this" staph infections, one of which resulted in permanent nerve damage in several fingers.

Here's what 2015 to present day has taught us: We're alone in this, and we're all the other person has in this world. "Friends" visited in the hospital, and they're no longer communicating with either of us. Certain family members cared temporarily, and have since gone on with their lives. One completely abandoned my brother. No one has contacted either of us to find out if one or both of us needs a hand in all of this. Well, we do. I may not ask for help for myself, but you can be damn sure I will ask for my brother.
All funds raised will be used for medical expenses ($8500 is the majority of the amount needed for hospital bills). He requires life-stabilizing heart and blood pressure medication(s) he will need to be on to better his quality of life (One of which is brand new and extremely expensive. As in, nearly $800 a month because it is not yet formulary. Monthly medication totals out at around $950.). There are other medications and supplements he is prescribed and must take daily. The expenses are astronomical. He has already spent months without medication.
We've exhausted every option available to us. Charities will not help. Hospitals want their money. Doctors want their money, and we understand that. However, I want my brother to be able to sleep at night without the weight of the world on his shoulders. I want him to survive and thrive.
I will NEVER forget a single person who makes a contribution to helping my brother. My cousin was the first person to get the ball rolling. I don’t care if you’re family, a friend, or a perfect stranger, it will mean the absolute WORLD to me to keep my brother alive.
Our Grandfather died at 40 due to a massive heart attack. Our other Grandfather also passed away due to a heart attack, so the concern is great. I was informed that this is genetic and nothing my brother did in his life caused this.
The advancements of modern medicine and surgery have done wonders for him, but he is far from out of the woods and may require additional surgery up the road. The medicine and copays on his most recent surgeries are slaughtering him. I am hoping to get some of his bills paid quickly and the rest I will negotiate with the various parties involved.
In turn, I am asking for donations, however large or small, because they all mean he will continue to live and receive the appropriate care he needs. Ultimately, that's all I care about; my brother remaining alive. To do less for him would be a grave injustice and to not be the sister I've been since day one would be even worse.
We are trying to raise $3000 immediately, and the rest can go at its own pace (I will adjust the total amount as we meet goals), but the sooner the better. I will continue to work out arrangements with the various organizations, as I am the one handling the heavy lifting (He's not allowed to be under any stress.), but he, himself, will be the one paying the bills.
