Kuumba Nia Arts are returning to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August in Co production with Euton Daley's Unlock the Chains Collective. We shall be performing our powerful and moving drama SOLD at the Attic Pleasance CourtYard which recently played to packed houses. But we need your help!
Kuumba Nia Arts are an Oxford-based theatre company. We create stories from the Black experience, fusing theatre with storytelling, song, music and dance along with contemporary, historical and the traditional from the African diaspora to create unique productions of startling authenticity that inform, surprise and entertain.

"To Be Free is very sweet"
We launched SOLD at Oxford’s Old Fire Station this March and it has subsequently been supported by both the Oxford Playhouse and The North Wall Arts Centre. Amantha Edmead’s play is based on Mary Prince’s autobiography, written in 1831. SOLD is a forgotten story giving one woman’s first-hand account of brutality at the height of the slave trade. Powerful and entertaining, this true story is a candid account of her enslavement in the British West Indies that shocked readers in Britain, becoming an important tool for the Abolition of Slavery movement. In the light of the I Can’t Breathe and Black Lives Matter campaigns, and the recent Windrush scandal, the uncomfortable legacy of transatlantic slavery lives on.
