Getting Beth Better

I have set up this fundraising page to help fund my ongoing Lyme Disease treatment back in the UK.

Sadly the NHS doesn’t recognise or fully understand the complexities of Lyme Disease and how this has affected my health in SO many debilitating ways. It has caused damage to my ear, stomach, autonomic system, joints and immune system.

Over the last 4 years I've ended up having a total of 4 surgeries, 10 invasive medical procedures, over 6 months in hospital and have had 3 trips to the USA for medical treatment. Could this have all been avoided? We don't really know. If I had been treated in the acute phase and avoided the infection becoming chronic, I could have perhaps prevented a lot of damage being done.   After years of confusion and suffering I have finally started my very long road to finally getting better.

In December 2016 I travelled to a Lyme Disease expert in the USA who understood me like no other doctor had before. He knew how to actually help me get better, instead of telling me I should just 'learn to live with my symptoms'.

My treatment so far has not been straightforward and I've struggled to tolerate the medications, mainly due to Mast Cell Activation Sydrome and my immune system being so suppressed. This has depleted my body's ability to get rid of the infection. I am continuing on treatment to support my immune system, reduce levels of inflammtion and increasing detoxification with the hope that my body will start to respond.

I cannot put into words how infuriating the past year has been for me and my family. We have battled for healthcare I so desperately need. Lyme disease is sadly very misunderstood in the medical world and I am one of MANY people who have to self fund their own treatment. It is so heartbreaking to think of how many other people are suffering like me and have little to no hope of getting better without raising the money themselves. This is something that HAS to change and I plan to put absolutely everything I have into helping people when I am better. Of course any leftover funds will go towards this!

For now I really need all the help I can get to cover the cost of my ongoing treatment. I currently rely on IV fluids through a port in my chest just to stay hydrated. I suffer with constant dizziness and vertigo attacks that affect every aspect of my life. The damage to my ear has resulted in multiple surgeries on my brain which has caused further trauma to my body. I suffer with excruiating head pain on a daily basis. Things are far from being stable but I have never lost my hope or determination.  I know I will get there. The support I have received is beyond amazing and I feel incredibly lucky to have got as far as I have. I really couldn't do it without any one of you! To continue to help me get better please do one or more of the following:
- Share my page to help spread awareness!
-Come along to one of our fundraising campaigns this summer (details to follow)
-Set up your own fundraiser to raise money
-Donate what ever you can (however big or small).
