We now need your help as we kick off our 2016 Summer Soulstice fundraising campaign to celebrate our 7th year of hosting this one-of-a-kind dance event that has turned into a movement, Welcome to the Groovement!

What it is…
Behind The Groove was conceived, inspired and created by Kwikstep (aka DJ KS*360), Co-Artistic and Executive Director of the international cultural Hip Hop collective, Full Circle Productions Inc. and is hosted by Rokafella, Co-Artistic and Executive Director Full Circle Productions inc. Both Kwikstep and Rokafella are also legendary dancers.
BTG is a monthly dance event with a loyal following from the international urban dance community, held at New York City’s infamous dance spaces such as the award-winning Le Poisson Rouge in the West Village.
Designed to invigorate and help preserve New York’s iconic global reputation of having a rich, multi-cultural, multigenerational urban scene, the event features a variety of musical genres ranging from Funk, Break beats, Afro-beat and House to Reggae, Disco, Salsa, and 80’s classics as well as todays future classics!
This unique musical journey continues to attract a growing and loyal international following, but we need your help so we can grow, expand, and preserve NYC’s legendary dance/music scene that nurtured the development of styles including Breaking, Rocking, Popping, Locking, House, Hip Hop Party Dances, Hustle, Vogueing, Salsa, and more.
Behind The Groove honors and builds upon the spirit and culture that flourished in the 80’s and 90’s in iconic venues such as Roseland, Paradise Garage, The Fun House, The Roxy, Heart Throbs, The Building, Palladium, Sound Factory Bar, Mars, Red Zone, The World, Bonds International, Union Square, and The Roof Top to name a few.
Where We’re Going…
There are very few events today where all of these dance styles can be experienced and witnessed in one evening. There are even fewer that are curated by dancers and DJ’s like KS 360 and DP One — Behind The Groove’s resident DJ’s who are well versed in Rare Funk, Breaks, Disco, 70's and 80’s R&B Classics, 80’s and 90’s Hip Hop Classics, Paradise Garage Classics, House, Reggae, New Wave, Salsa, and more.
Hosted by legendary dancer Rokafella, Behind The Groove’s incredible vibe is enhanced by live performances by some of NYC’s best musicians and club artists on the scene, including Swiss Chris, Ron Renaissance, and Strafe who is known for his smash club hit "Set it Off."
To Top it off, the legendary Ralph McDaniels of Video Music Box is the official Host and MC of our special Behind The Groove events.

Dance legend regulars at Behind The Groove events include the likes of Buddha Stretch, Loose Joint and Link of Elite Force, Adesola Osakalumi, J Rock, Katalyst, Neguin, Ringo, Mighty Mike, Archie Burnett, Javi Ninja, Fire Lock, Hurricane, Nubian Ne Ne, Lockeroo, and Rokafella to name a few! Our events are filled with both award-winning and emerging dancers and choreographers from NYC and around the world, who dance the night away, month after month, after month, and have done so for the past 6 years!

2015 was Behind The Groove’s 6th Anniversary Year and we raised $7390, half of our $15,000 to help cover our operational expenses. This still enabled us to continue providing NYC, the Tri State area, and the international dance scene with our high quality, culturally important dance event, again Thank You to all who made this possible!
With your help we hope to meet our 2016 base goal of $15,000 so we will be able to host our special events, Such as our Behind The Groove Float at this years 10th Anniversary Dance Parade and sound system rental for the BTG Dance Parade celebration in Tompkins Square Park!
Celebrate with Us at some of our up coming free BTG Summer Soulstice events which will include St Mary's Park in The Bronx, The main stage in Central Park at Rumsey Playfield, Lincoln Center, The Behind The Groove Thank You Party in the fall, Our famous Behind The Groove Halloween Monster Jam and the BTG Valentine’s Red & White Party , all featuring special guests, live music and dance performances!
Your contribution of any amount will help cover monthly expenses including the transportation and rental of sound equipment and venues as well as staffing fees. Contributions will also help to allow us to pay for quality guest DJs’ and live quality performances by artists who have been the sound tracks of our lives such as Strafe, D Train, The Legebdary Ladies of Skyy, Jocelyn Brown and more!
