GET OPTIC NERVE TREATMENT FOR ALEX

Donation protected
Thank you for the taking some time to read Alex's story. Doesn't matter how much or how little you donate, everything will help get Alexandra (Alex) to Berlin, Germany to receive treatment.

2016 should have been the best year of Alex's life, having just got engaged and moving into her first home with fiance Scott. However, in January 2016 Alex had lost the majority of her sight in her right eye, which then moved to her left eye in May 2016. Leaving her severely sight imparied (blind).

Alex's whole life was put on hold, delaying wedding plans, and leaving her unable to work and housebound at just 22 years old. Over the course of the year, Alex was given increasingly bad news, ultimating in the result of optic neuropathy (severe optic nerve damage), the cause of which is still unknown, and was told by her consultant that there was nothing more that can be done.

However, relcutant to believe that there were no more answers and that Alex would have to live with sight impairment for the rest of her life, Scott went online and found the Restore Vision Clinic in Germany. After reading stories and reports on the treatment (therapeutic electrical stimulation), together they applied and Alex was told that she would be eligible for the treatment and was given a variety of dates to choose from.

However, this treatment is not covered by the NHS, which is where the page comes in. Any donations will go towards covering the costs of treatment (approx. €5,000), flights and accomadation.

The soonest date available is next month (March 2017) and the dates continue to June 2017. However, which ever month we pick the treatment is for two weeks; so these dates are just optional. This means we need funds to be raised as soon as possible as we are, understandly, eager to go and commence treatment.

Alexandra has given an interview to Jill Barkley on RNIB Connect Radio explaining her story and how she intends to help other people, if nothing more can be done for herself, you can listen, here: Alex's interview with RNIB

You can read the stories of other patient's positive results, here: Restore Vision Patient story

Many thanks in advance, and hopefully this will result in regaining Alex's independance and quality of life.
