Kurtis Hebert is a 13 year old young gentleman who is loved by many. He is a 7th grade boy who plays football and soccer and loves hanging out with friends, playing video games, and being outdoors. He is a respectful, funny, caring young man who people genuinely enjoy being around.
Sadly, on Tuesday May 15th, Kurtis' young life took a drastic change when he was struck by a car when trying to cross the street to get pizza with friends. His family is grateful that Kurtis is still here with us, but sad that he has such a long road of recovery ahead of him. Kurtis' right leg broke in half which required surgery and both an internal and external fixation plate. In addition, his left ankle is also broken which required surgery and internal pins and screws. As a result, Kurtis will be in a wheelchair and unable to walk for 6 plus months. In addition to those injuries, he also suffered three skull fractures in his face, bruised lungs, pneumonia, and elbow trauma. Due to the accident, he had additional complications which has required him to be in and out of the ICU. He is still currently at Boston Children's Hospital until further notice.
This has all taken a huge emotional and financial toll on his family. His mother, Dawn, is a single mom who has not been able to work since the accident and may not be able to return to work for a long time as Kurtis will need constant care. Once Kurtis is able to go home, he will need a specialized wheelchair and a hospital bed. Although insurance will pay for some of this, it will not cover everything. In addition, he will need transportation back and forth to the hospital for continued therapy and follow-up care. The cost of gas, food, and parking is already challenging for his family. His family does not want to ask for help. They want to be able to do it on their own, but can't. Many people from the community have been asking how they can help, and this is one way that they can. The family wants to thank everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers. Please keep them coming.
