Who would have thought, seven years ago, that a local community choir from rural Wiltshire would be invited to sing in one most famous concert halls in the world?
But it is true! And with your help we can get the The Village Singers from Wiltshire to New York to perform in The Carnegie Hall. This experience will demonstrate that music and performing at a high level can be accessible to everyone. Its the kind of thing bucket lists are made of!
The Village Singers are a non-audition community choir with around 70 members from all walks of life, ranging in age from teenagers to over 80! We love to sing but we also love to have fun; friendship and socialising is a really important part of our ethos and is what makes our choir so special. Also, we traditionally donate a percentage of our concert proceeds to community and charitable causes.
Despite our sometimes-irreverent attitude we take our singing very seriously. Our Musical Director, Rachel McCorry, supported by Paul Wendell, Assistant Musical Director, has the highest expectation of musical excellence with a strong focus on improving our individual musicianship and the quality of our performance and repertoire.
In January 2019 we have been invited to join choirs from around the world to form the Distinguished Concerts Singers International and take part in a special performance of 'The Music of Karl Jenkins' in the Carnegie Hall, New York. It will feature the US Premiere of 'Symphonic Adiemus', with Sir Karl Jenkins himself as Composer in Residence.
...... Pretty impressive for a rural choir who, only 7 years ago, were a few ladies singing in the local pub!
The cost of the trip is over £1,000 per person, prohibitive to many of us but we feel it is really important that all our members are able to be part of this awesome collective musical experience.
We would very much welcome financial help to ensure all 70 of our members take part but we need it soon so we can commit and book our travel.
If you can help us raise £20,000 to part-fund our costs we will source the rest and between us we will get The Village Singers to New York City!
