To loved ones both near and far:
Today, I am starting a GoFundMe to get the members of my family to my college graduation. Unfortunately, my family is not well off financially-speaking, and some unforeseen circumstances are threatening their ability to partake in my special day next Sunday.
Those of you that know me know that I am someone who is extremely resilient and only asks for help in desperate times. However, I fear that I am finally out of my depth, and I need assistance.
As a first-gen college student, I am fighting with everything I have to end cycles of poverty (both at home and in my community), while also seeking to establish a positive example for my younger siblings (I aspire for them to attend elite universities in the future, which is why it is so important for them to see me walk the stage next week). At Middlebury, I currently have four work-study jobs, am president of QTPOC, a member of Evolution dance crew, a recipient of a Fulbright to Brazil, and I am currently on track to graduate with departemental honors. There is so much reason for me to celebrate, but not being able to treasure the victory that is a college graduation with my family will completely devastate me. I know that I cannot do this alone, hence the creation of this GoFundMe page.
I believe in the power of community, and I pray that if you are reading this, you are able to contribute something to help my family celebrate all of my accomplishments with me next week. Anything would be very much appreciated as I begin this endeavor. The goal is to have these funds by Saturday, May 25 at the absolute latest.
