Greetings, readers! If you're here, chances are you remember The (Asheville) Global Report in its previous incarnations as a TV show, a website, and a printed newspaper. You may have noticed that, unfortunately, none of them are currently available. While we have no immediate plans to restart the show or the paper, there is very little standing in the way of bringing the entire print run’s archives back online.
In its heyday, The Global Report earned an award-winning, national reputation for providing both original and aggregated news content that was all-too tragically hard to find. An exemplary model of DIY citizen activism at its best, our operation was only made possible by hundreds of volunteers and sponsors dedicating their efforts week in, week out to providing a free resource of crucial and timely information so often missing from the mainstream media. Over time, the Global Report archives became a virtual library of historic information – a preservation of a peoples’ history of social movements, and political and environmental news spanning over the first dozen years of the new millennium.
Currently this information bank is inaccessible. A kind volunteer has paid out of pocket to host our archives while we attempted in vain to resolve an account lockout due to an email hack. Just under $600 would help us pay him back and migrate our archives to a new site.
So, this is one last fundraising request for the AGR. If everyone who follows this site could kick in just $10, we could have our archives available again in no time. Any amount we raise over what we need to get back online will go to future maintenance fees.
