Help Get Dad's chemo started

Spende geschützt
This is my Dad, Bill Shackelford.  He currently lives with my family.  He loves his two daughters and his grandkids and he has a lot to live for.  He loves Jesus.  He likes to make pancakes for us.  He has a great sense of humor and he would give you the shirt off of his back if you asked him.  He is kind and gentle.  He is a peacemaker.  I inherited much of my compassion from him.

My Dad is a veteran having served during the Vietnam War and was exposed to agent orange while in the service.  As a result of this exposure, he is now facing a very difficult diagnosis of three primary cancers in his body:  prostate, colon and the most alarming, pancreatic.  He needs treatment as soon as possible and has applied for disability with the Veterans Association to pay for the chemo treatments and subsequent removal of part of his pancreas, but we are told it could take 6 months for the VA to approve disability coverage.  This is time he does not have.

We have also applied for Medicaid which was denied because his social security check is $67 a month too much to qualify.  He lives below the poverty line and did not have a safe place to live when he moved in with us,  yet he cannot qualify for Medicaid.

Our only option to get his treatment started as soon as possible is to use his Medicare which covers 80% of the costs which means  he is responsible for $6000 plus just to get started.  Unfortunately, this is money that neither he nor his family has.   He was hospitalized most of the month of August and the medical bills are piling up.  We are sure there will be more bills to come.

We have been unable to start treatment because of these financial issues and have faced so many obstacles in getting his treatment started quickly, so my last ditch effort is to reach towards my community, family and friends to ask for donations towards getting his 3 months of pre-surgery chemo treatments started.  As of now his pancreas is still operable, which makes his prognosis still hopeful, but if we can't get his chemo initiated soon (to stop the growth of the tumors), his chances of recovery will be gone.

We need these funds as soon as possible to be able to begin these life saving treatments.  Please keep my Dad and our family in your prayers.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.  Every little bit helps.
