Gerry Dahl's Cancer Treatment Fund

Some just call them dads. Some, fathers. Some, nothing at all.
To me and my sister Miranda, ours is so much more.

Meet our best friend, Gerald Dahl.

A brief background,

Gerald Dahl was born in the small town of Quensel, BC in 1956 to a single mother at 18. In the year 1956, being a child out of wedlock was not looked at as a positive or accepting option. The word "bastard" actually housed blatant disrespect to a child born without two parents. Gerry (as he is called by his loved ones) did not let that disrupt his goals in life.

Gerry found himself in the logging industry at an early age where he loved tree falling and remained for over 20 yrs. Gerry met his wife, Tara, in 1980, whom he fell in love with and married shortly after, creating three wonderful children. Thirteen years later, however, tragedy struck.

Gerry had lost his first-born, his only son, and to us our older brother, in a childhood accident. After thirteen years of marriage and three young children, Gerry unexpectedly found himself fighting for the custody of his own two daughters.

After a long and trying road, in 1998 Gerry achieved custody, was ready take his kids home, and do whatever he could do to establish a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for us to grow up in. He single-handedly nurtured two children from the ages of 5 & 9 into the strong women we are today at ages 26 & 30. This is an incredible achievement we are forever grateful for, and ultimately humbled by, from this great man.

In 2007, Gerry's mother succumbed to colon cancer. We could not have predicted that so shortly after we would be facing the same battle with our own single parent; our rock, our lifeline, our father.

When and how was he diagnosed?

Summer of 2016, Gerry went to the doctor for weak urination, after a physical and some bloodwork was requested which showed an elevated PSA level (your cancer count, essentially) A biopsy was requested and recommended.

In transition between jobs and locations, the biopsy was delayed. A new diet was implemented in hopes of helping in the interim. After the transition through a long rough winter, he was back for another blood test to find out he had reached a PSA level of 996. This meant that Gerry was now facing an aggressive state of Metastic Prostate Cancer which was, and is, attacking his bones.

As of the last week, the Oncologist has estimated a life expectancy of "12-18 months" and maybe another "12 after 6 weeks of chemo". In the meantime, we will not be told to wait. Multiple options outside of Canada and The United States show far superior results. However, superior results come with a superior price tag.

The clinic/The treatment plan.

The treatment will start immediately after the funds are raised.
The clinic is in Tijuana, Mexico under the advanced guidance of Dr. Castillos at the CIPAG Clinic.

The initial treatment is for 21 (working) days, they are open daily except Sundays, and treatment will start same day as arrival. 90% of the patients at the CIPAG Clinic are Canadian. Unfortunately, our current Canadian medical system is flawed and has let us down tremendously.

Recently, a dear friend of mine Daylen went to the clinic as well, as her dad before her had done, and she had said she sat next to people aged 8- 80, all told the exact same thing: "Go home and wait." Wait for test results. Truthfully, "Go home and wait to die." Refusing to accept that fate, they come to Dr. Castillos.

Our father will be taking part in multiple, proven alternative treatments such as DMSO, B17, Hyperbaric Chamber, as well as Chemo, and many others.
Not only do these treatments help with cancer but also many other life threatening diseases. Dr. Castillos is a doctor that could truly change the world, one person at a time, and I believe one of those people is our father.

My sister and I will not give up.

How hard is it to save 25,000 in 6 weeks really?/The Plea

We now face the reality of what is financially required to help our father.

My sister and I are both working full-time to help with any and all expenses while at home. (Ex. Phoenix tears, organic vegetables for juicing, rent, bills, passport photo/application, and so on.) However, the cost of treatment exceeds our capabilities alone. We now reach out to our community for further support

Dr. Castillo said we need anywhere from $7000-$9000 USD for the 21 days. $9000 USD means max treatments so that’s what were aiming for. This is approximately $12,250 CDN. Additional costs include the return flight to Mexico, 4 weeks accommodation, and daily transportation to and from the clinic. Daylen will be helping us arrange organic fruit and vegetable delivery at his accommodation to assure his diet and immune system will be at the fullest strength possible.

What we ask of you, those who have known us, have known Gerry, or have known someone fighting this same battle, is to contribute as little or as much as you are able. Any help is so very much appreciated. We know that small contributions from those around us will be the difference to longevity or demise. You can make a difference. Together, we will impact our dearest friend, our father's, health so greatly that the feeling of hope will again be something we believe to be real. Thank you so much for your help and consideration.

Love,
Emma
