Hey Everyone,

So as many of you that know me will be aware, I am non-binary transgender. For anyone who has known me for a long time this may not seem like much of a surprise, but I have only discovered the words to describe my gender in recent years and this has been really liberating. If anyone needs a bit more info, non-binary means that I don’t identify as a man or a woman; my gender falls outside of these two categories.

I am now at a place where I realise changing my body to be more aligned with my core identity is a crucial step I need to take for my own wellbeing. I have been taking testosterone for a few months and am much happier now, as I feel my body is running on the ‘right fuel’ and I’m enjoying the changes I see! Despite this, I still suffer with a lot of gender dysphoria in relation to my chest and have been wearing a binder (a type of compression vest) for over two years now. Binding can cause long term damage to the body and is very impractical and constricting when trying to do any kind of physical activity. So therefore my quality of life will be greatly improved if I can have surgery to create a flatter chest sooner rather than later.

Getting chest reconstruction surgery on the NHS has unfortunately been fraught with hurdles due to the huge demand for the Gender Identity Clinics, resulting in them not having the resources to see people in a reasonable timeframe. I went to my GP exactly 2 years ago and was referred to the London NHS clinic for an initial assessment; I am still waiting for this appointment…. Whilst I was told the waiting list was 14 months from referral, it has now been 24 and seems to be increasing every day. I am sadly at the point where I have had to accept that treatment on the NHS is not an option any time in the near future. Given how important this surgery is for my own happiness, I have booked myself in to a private clinic to have chest reconstruction this October and plan to try and finance it myself.

So far I have been able to pay the deposit for the operation using my savings and from the sale of my much loved Suzuki Jimny. However the full cost of the procedure is £6200 which is money I just don’t have at this point in my life. I really don’t fancy getting myself into debt, but this is what I need to feel at home in my own skin and why I am asking for your help.

If you can spare some funds to put towards this surgery it would be gratefully received! Any amount of donation would be amazing as it all contributes towards helping me to reach my goal and begin this exciting new stage of my life!
