George Ocampo's Battle with Cancer

$31,420 of $100,000 goal

George is a very loyal, kindhearted, selfless, geniune man.  He has a big heart and is a friend for life.  George is hardworking and will always go above and beyond for his family and friends.  His wife and children are his everything.  He is the most amazing husband and father. George has been a big advocate with youth sports.  He coached Little League and Hollister Heat for numerous years when his children were young.  To ensure that his children had the means to attend State Universities, he took a part time weekend job for 17 years.  Currently, he is an umpire for multiple youth baseball organizations.

On April 20, 2018, George went to the hospital with the thought of possible gallstones all to find out after numerous tests he was dignosed with pancreatic cancer.  George along with his wife and children are preparing for the biggest fight of his life.  He will be having another procedure done this week which will determine if surgery is an option.  At that time, we will have a recommended treatment plan.

With the support and love from family and friends, we can help him get through this difficult time.  I am asking for donations to make this heavy load  of doctor's appointments, co-pays, deductibles, insurance preimums and the loss of income be less of a burden to the family so their main focus can be George.

George has always gone out of his way for others with a huge smile on his face and has never asked for anything in return,  it is now our time to give back to him.   Most importantly,  please keep George and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Hello everyone today is 5-6-2019 it’s been a while since I’ve have been able to update because we really did not have a plan for George’s next plan of attack. This weekend was a rough one. He has been hospitalized since Friday and had to have another ERCP surgical procedure. His stent was backed up and he developed an infection in his blood. We are told
Tomorrow he will be released.

As of now, the next plan is to start a clinical trial at UCSF. It will run for 26 weeks. We will be required to stay in San Francisco for at least 1 day per week~ during that time George will continue to be disabled so he has started the whole social security process which we are
Praying does not take months. His team of doctors think that this is the best plan for now and will continue to work together to make sure it continues to be the best path for George. We are so blessed to have a great team that works together #teamwork

It was a year on April 21st since George’s diagnosis and the doctors are amazed at how well George is doing and looks.... we owe a lot of that to all of you... our prayer warriorsand of course George’s positive attitude and faith in god and his plan.

We love and appreciate each and everyone of you! Like I have said before.... please feel free to call, text or come by and take George for a ride.
He loves to get out and have good conversation and laughs. #teamgeorge #NoOneFightAlone

Ok so today we get to share the news.... last week after multiple extensive test, biopsies and scans we were told George’s tumor has been changed to a Neuroendocrine tumor... what is that you might ask well the best explanation we got was it is the same type of tumor Steve Job’s had. From day one the pathology report came back as a Adenocarcinoma tumor which is the type Patrick Swazye had. What does that mean for George you might ask? Well it means that this is a much slower growing tumor and there are different ways to treat it. We were told last week as of now no more chemo. Monday he started a new treatment where he will get a hormone type injection every 5 weeks. So far side effects are minimal. We went to see a specialist today at UCSF and he is amazed with George. George’s tumor is still considered by him as a Grade 4 tumor but because of George’s symptoms and tolerance to recent treatments he too feels that they can find ways to treat George’s cancer effectively. He is recommending a chemo pill along with the 5 week injection. There is also a new treatment that has just been approved in the US that he said they will keep in their back pocket. They will be presenting treatment plans to each other as well as the tumor boards of both UCSF and Stanford then decide what is next.

We are told this is life changing and can mean years as opposed to months and with new treatments that have just been released we are praying for a lifetime. This to us is a miracle from god. How did the tumor test as one kind 10 months ago and change now? We feel like we have and continue to be placed in the right path and we are just going to follow. We feel so blessed that we have you all by our side and praying for George and our family daily. We know it’s working and now you do too.

We know there may continue to be bumps in the road as George says but we feel so much more confident with knowing that there are more options for this more individualize cancer. We have always known George is one special man and this is just more of a confirmation. Please continue to pray, call and or text George he loves hearing from you. He is hoping to get back to work soon so for now please feel free to keep him busy and besides it makes him feel so special. The only thing he really plans on each day is watching Ellen @4 pm. That always makes him smile. Feel free to share this post we love and appreciate all your support... We honestly couldn’t have gotten through this without you.

As 2018 comes to an end we would like to thank everyone of you who have helped us get through this bumpy road. Our family has been showered with so much love, support and prayer. We feel so blessed to be a part of our little community of Hollister that has made a huge impact on our life. ( Not to mention our friends and family outside of Hollister who continue to love support and pray for us daily)

The holiday has brought us so many emotional moments that we were not prepared for.... After 12 rounds of chemo George’s mass as increased in size and there are now some more suspicious spots appearing on the liver. That was not the news we wanted to share with our kids on Christmas Eve. George had a biopsy scheduled for this past Thursday that had to be rescheduled due to a pancreatic flare up/bacteria infection that caused a 4 day 3 night hospital stay. He is doing much better now. He will be on antibiotics for 7 days and then see his doctor and then reschedule biopsy in 2 weeks which means we now have 2 weeks to continue to pray for a miracle.

We are still very confident with George’s team of doctors and his main oncologist Dr Cabebe who even made his way to the hospital to see George on his vacation who walked in the room with open arms and said we have a plan.....

This year has brought us some things we did not expect or plan on but..... it has brought us so many great things that we choose to focus on. We have been brought to a great church Sunnyslope Christian Center that has helped us keep and grow our faith with the support of so many great people, we were lead to a great oncologist Dr Cabebe who we love and trust, our son Troy Graduated from Fresno State and will be moving back to Hollister where he will start a great new job, our daughter Ali moved back to California (San Francisco) and has a job she loves and is closer, our daughter Dana Graduated from San Jose City with a drug and alcohol counseling certificate and one of our biggest blessings has been our friends, who we have always known were great.... have now become our family.

2019 we are ready for you!!! We are gonna start the biggest battle of our life.... George is our inspiration. He makes us all rethink what a “BAD DAY” is with a BIG smile on his face. His love for life, Ellen Show, and his faith in miraculous healing is moving and contagious.

Thanks to everyone who continues to pray and support George and our family. Today is the last day of 2018 and I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you who made George smile this year!!!! We love you appreciate you all more then you will ever know.

Love the Ocampo Family
