Hello! My name is Maelynn Watrous! My mother is Linda Chicha Jagiello. Many of you may know her from The Cutting Castle. She has owned her salon for over 30 years. On Tuesday October 27th 2015 my mother decided to take a huge leap to improve her health by having bariatric surgery. The surgery went well and on Thursday October 29th she was discharged and sent home. She was told she could return to work with extremely limited hours after 3 weeks. I came home from Cadillac to help take care of her for those 3 weeks. She did very well during that time. We were walking twice a day; she was drinking her fluids and eating what few things she could with no complications. I returned home after those 3 weeks.

I came back for Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday November 27th I knew that she wasn’t doing well. The smell, sight or even mention of food or water would make her vomit. She couldn’t keep anything down, whatsoever. So I called the hospital, spoke with her doctor and he advised that we get her to the ER at Munson Hospital in Traverse City as soon as possible. My sister and my cousin took her to Munson. She was then hospitalized for 10 days due to dehydration, malnutrition as well as dangerously low potassium and magnesium levels. On the 11th day she was discharged and sent back home with orders from her doctor that she could not return to work whatsoever.

From then until December 22nd she visited an infusion center three times just to have fluids put back into her system because she still could not keep anything down. On December 22nd she called me to let know she would be returning to the ER again. That was probably the scariest days of my life. When she spoke to me I could tell something was terribly wrong. She kept forgetting what she was saying, who she was talking to, why she was talking to me and she was slurring her words to an extreme. She was admitted that day back into the hospital at Munson in Traverse City.

It was then that they decided to insert a PICC line into her arm so she could be administered fluids and nutrients via IV. She was released to return home on December 24th. From that day until February 12th she had an IV administered through her PICC line anywhere from 12-24 hours a day. She was able to have the PICC line removed on February 12th. She has also been permitted to return to work with very limited hours and only a couple days a week. She has not had any income since October. Between her surgery, ER visits, infusion center visits, home health care nurse visits and so on she now has over $10,000 in medical bills facing her.

This is why I’m asking our family and friends for help. My mother is a beautiful person inside and out! She has done so much for our community, for her family, her friends and even complete strangers. I feel this is our chance to give back to her. I wish there was more I could do for her financially myself but it’s just not a possibility. I saw on her Facebook alone she has somewhere around 747 friends. If each of her friends gave $4, we could raise almost $3,000 for her! It’s time for her community to do for her what she has been doing for us her entire life.
