Commemorating Community Through Art

Donation protected
My name is Selena Blankenship and I am the principal at Hilsman Middle School in Athens, GA. Hilsman is a high poverty school, with 100% of our students receiving free meals. Our school also has a rich history. This year is the 50th anniversary of the opening of our school and our students want to commemorate this occasion with a mural that will not only make our school more beautiful, but also will provide an opportunity for our young artists to create and capture the essence of our school and community spirit.

Broderick Flanigan will be the lead artist on this project. Broderick is a former student of Hilsman Middle School where he met Mrs. Campbell who is still the art teacher. The two artists will be working together on this mural.

Donating to this project will allow us to bring a public art mural to Hilsman Middle School and to have youth from the school help with the process. Our youth are faced with many challenges in their lives. Often times they have a path to excelling or falling into a vicious cycle of poverty. This mural project will serve as one opportunity to allow our students to experience success.  We hope to raise $1500 to offset the cost of materials and an honorarium for the lead artist.

The Hilsman Jubilee celebration is set for May 14, 2016, during which the mural will be unveiled. Won't you help us reach our goal and make a lasting contribution to our school community?
