GBR Team Fund Raiser 2017

Donation protected
In November 2016 Geraldton Board Riders Club made history in many ways. GBR established a team to compete for the first time in the Western Australian leg of The Nudie Juice Australian Board Riders Battle (ABB).  The ABB is the  biggest grassroots club series in the sport's history. In 2016/17, it involves more than 60 of Australia’s best board riders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a National Final in Newcastle, NSW in February (17th-19th)

Geraldton Boardriders Club debuted in emphatic style at the sixth event of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle, claiming victory in tough conditions at Trigg Point . GBR were the underdogs up against eight of Western Australia’s best board riding clubs as they converged along Perth’s metropolitan beaches, participating in a unique and exciting competition format that provided non-stop action and high performance surfing.

GBR were up against a talent-stacked field of current, former and aspiring WA surfing champions  who revelled in the opportunity to represent their local board riding club and fly the flag for grass roots surfing in Australia. GBR fielded a team combine with experience and youth – Max and  Brady Marsden, Jesse Molloy, Deon Hagan, Erica Trotter and  Josh Stanton. Club Life Member Dave Williams put his hand up to stand in for Leon Norris and Ross Middleton who were not available to coach the team.

The team were united in their mission ‘ to do the best they could possibly do for GBR and the memory of great mate, GBR life member and local surfing legend Ian ’Sam’ Salmond who sadly lost his battle with cancer in February 2016.

The momentum started from the first heat in the Skins event when Max Marsden took to the air and pulled every trick out of his surfing bag with outstanding surfing to win the Skins. The team was amped and united in their surfing as they fought their way to the Grand Final, club president Leon Norris was being sent text messages every 5 minutes in the final from coach Dave Williams as it came down to the wire and again max Marsden delivered the deciding blow with only seconds remaining in the final to take a massive win from favourites Trigg Point. The vibe on the beach was insane said coach Williams as GBR was announced the winner by .47 of a point!  An amazing outcome from an incredible and committed group of country surfers.

Club President Leon Norris said ‘every surfer took turns in calling me to express how blown way they were with their win’. ‘They were so absolutely stoked  to have won for the club and Sam, and now we need to get them to the Australian Finals’ Norris said .

GBR will be sending the team with coaches to the Australian Finals being held in Newcastle NSW Feb 17th-19th. This is a massive event with the best surfers in the world on hand to represent their Aussie clubs. We are aiming to raise at least $15k to make this happen and we need your help through a personal or business donation to contribute using Go Fund Me.
