Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR)

My name is Sheila Meaney and I currently teach English in Seoul, South Korea.  I moved here in July 2014 from Wisconsin and quickly fell in love with the culture and country of Korea.  I enjoy volunteering on weekends as a way to feel a part of the community.

Is a non-profit that connects volunteer English tutors with North Korean refugees.

Speaking English is very important skill for employees to have in South Korea. This programs aims to help those who need it most, North Korean Refugees.

What you can do to help:

TNKR is an entirely voluntary organization, which means that teaching resources, travel, etc are at the expense of the tutor. On top of this, TNKR desperately need your support to help with all kinds of work they're doing to help with the integration of North Korean refugees in South Korea and other relational issues.

The smallest contribution would be much appreciated by myself and the directors of TNKR, but I think most of all, by the refugees.

Here's TNKR's mission statement:

"Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR) is a non-political and non-religious humanitarian organization that focuses on assisting adults who have escaped North Korea in preparing for their future. The primary focus of TNKR has been to provide English learning opportunities to refugees and to provide them with more options for determining their places in society. All tutors involved in the project are volunteers, and there is no cost for the refugees."

TNKR Ambassadors have become authors, emerging leaders, global figures, entertainers, and TEDx participants.
