A note from Gator Pete:

"Hi Family Gator here, I have a little bit of Gator Pete news to share today. Not often am I at a loss for words, as many of you know, but today I find myself here. But I suppose the most direct way to say this is just to simply say it. So here goes...
Two weeks ago, I went to the Mayo Clinic in Owatonna, MN and they found a baseball size tumor on the Left side of my neck with lymph nodes affected on both sides. I went in for a biopsy of the mass in my neck on Monday June 11, 2018 to determine what form of cancer it was. I was then diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma that originated in my Left tonsil.
I don't find myself in the position I am today easy! I don't find it easy to ask my FAMILY for PRAYERS, LOVE and HELP! Many of you know the life and lifestyle I live. It is the most beautiful life I could ever have hoped for. Traveling while building concerts from one coast to another. Creating memories and fulfilling dreams for untold numbers of people. Never expecting anything except the satisfaction and honor to be gifted this amazing life with the opportunity to create magic. I am so blessed!
Yet the reality of life always has a way of showing up. With that being said, I come to you MY FAMILY and humbly need to ask for your help! I will be expected to pay out of pocket $15,000 for the surgery to remove the tumor and lymph nodes alone. I will then be undergoing chemo and radiation for 6 weeks which will require out of pocket costs. I then will be unable to work for 6 months to a year.
I simply ask of you with tears in my eyes, as humbly as I can, that if you can help, to please help! Please only help with what you can, Please DO NOT put you nor your family ahead of me! If you find that you have the ability then I say to you, I truly Love you and Thank you!"

*****Gator Pete will be having surgery on Friday June 21st, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Rochester to remove the cancerous mass from left side of his neck. There will be a double dissection to remove lymph nodes from both the right and left neck where the cancer has spread. The team of surgeons will also be removing the entire soft palate or roof of his mouth since it is cancerous.
To reconstruct the roof of his mouth, the surgical team will be taking skin and fat from the Right forearm, as well as an artery and vein for circulation to the newly reconstructed soft palate. They will then take a skin graft from one of his thighs to cover the Right forearm. Gator Pete will have a tracheostomy until he is able to breath on his own. He will also have an nasogastric tube (NG tube) for about a month to provide nutrition during the healing phase of the soft palate. He will be hospitalized for at least 5 days after surgery.
5 weeks following surgery, on July 29, 2018 through Labor Day week Gator Pete will be undergoing 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to destroy the remaining cancer cells.

*****The goal amount for Gator Aide to Help Kick Cancers Ass will cover medical bills accrued from the surgery, hospital stay, medical equipment, alternate nutrition, gas for travel to and from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, parking at the hospital, chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

*****During the recovery process, Gator will be staying at my house in Austin, MN till he is strong enough and physically able to feed himself. Please feel free to contact me personally to help out or even visit. During his treatments of radiation and chemotherapy he will be staying at HOPE Lodge in Rochester, MN. The only stipulation for him to stay at HOPE Lodge is that Gator has someone with him 24/7. We are in need of collectively filling these dates so he is able to stay at HOPE lodge during treatment. Please, please let me know if you are able to stay any of the dates!

*****Gator Pete has helped so many of us throughout our lives and also has helped to create our home away from home at Harmony Park Musical Gardens! He needs a village, he NEEDS HIS FAMILY now! It is time for Gator to take on this next chapter in his life with support from all of us! Together I know we can help ease the burdens of these troubling times in Gator's life so he is able to focus on his health and recovery! Sending lots of love, peace, blessings and prayers to our dear friend, Gator Pete!

*****LEAN ON US, WHEN YOU  ARE NOT STRONG! WE WILL BE YOUR GATOR AIDE!
