Sponsor a Garfield Park STAR

Hi! I’m Jason and I had the best day EVER! Today I was able to swim the entire length of the Garfield Park pool. I’ve been trying and trying but today I finally did it! I also met a new friend, Michael, and he LOVES swimming just like me, he joined my team, the Garfield Dolphins. At the Garfield Park Arts Center, I played with clay, it was gooey and awesome. I made a bowl it’s a little lopsided (actually really lopsided) but that’s ok, it was super fun… I can’t wait to come back to the park tomorrow! – Jason, Age 9, Garfield STAR.

In 2015, the Friends of Garfield Park developed the STARS program (Strength Through Activity, Responsibility and Service) offering enriching opportunities for youth in Garfield Park just like Jason. We want kids to have fun, learn, be active and have the best day EVER!

Through our STARS program youth can experience:
• Tennis lessons through the National Junior Tennis League
• Baseball and softball in the park by Playball Indiana and Indy Parks
• Swim lessons with Indy Parks Summer Swim program and Dolphins Team
• Opportunities to learn more about nature in our Park Conservatory
• Attend summer art camp at the Garfield Park Arts Center

Our Goal: Our goal is to raise $14,000 which will enable the Friends of Garfield Park to offer enriching and engaging programming at Garfield Park for an additional 350 youth.

For a gift of just $40 you can sponsor 1 Garfield STAR so they can participate in any one of the programs above. How many STARS do you want to help shine?

About Our STARS

Our Garfield STARS come from throughout Marion County, but we know many live in poverty and have little access to high quality programming and unique experiences. We know the students that currently participate in our STARS program attend Indianapolis Public School #19, #31 and #34, Emma Donnan Middle School, Christel House Academy, Central Catholic School and St. Roch Elementary. We currently serve 250 youth age 6-13. Our program demand is high and we are ready to expand so we can provide the STARS program to more than 600 youth.
